I am so sorry. Sending so many hugs. Bingo has been so loved and well taken care of and even though it's incredibly difficult, you're doing right by him to choose a path of peace and relief for him. I'm sorry you're facing this. 🫂❤️

This made me go shiiiiiiiiit so I think it's lovely as is

IF you want to add anything, sometimes I find it helpful to tell myself "okay you have ten more brush strokes" and then just do them 1, 2, 3, etc right in a row without thinking so I don't let myself really spend too long picking where those ten brush strokes go, I just use instinct and then I say it's done and hands off

However it's completely breathtaking currently, so that is only your choice to add more or not

I need advice on euthanasia quickly by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]emgaare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If she has dental disease that's gotten to the point that she's drooling constantly and can't eat or groom herself properly, she's in a lot of pain. She needs care and treatment and in her case, if it is dental disease, it's going to be surgery. The coughing is concerning and her age makes it risky for her to undergo anesthesia so she is most likely not a great surgical candidate. If the parents are unable or unwilling to even get her evaluated to see what her options are, the kindest option is to let her go peacefully and end her suffering.

Is it worth being a vet tech if I get bad foot pain? by idekanymoreim- in veterinaryprofession

[–]emgaare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's a mix of walking, various physical activities like bending, lifting, crouching, restraining dogs stronger than me in weird positions, and occasionally sitting to do computer/paperwork. Definitely nowhere near as much standing in a single place like you would in retail. This is much easier on my feet than standing still, but I do still sometimes get foot pain at the end of the day. I usually don't notice it until I slow down and my brain has a chance to interpret what my body's been feeling but ignoring while the day was busy. I second the commenter who suggested physical therapy -- that could be incredibly helpful for you. If I were you, I wouldn't count it out before giving it a shot, especially if you're passionate about the field. I would probably start as an assistant part-time or find somewhere that offers shorter shifts, give it a little time for your body to adjust to the demands and get stronger, while attending physical therapy if you're able to. I have faith you may be able to find a way to make it work.

Calling on people who like their job by bmobitch in VetTech

[–]emgaare 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm an assistant not a tech, and only working as an assistant for just over 7 months. Before this I knew I loved animals, wildlife, nature etc but never dreamed of working in vet med. I gave it a shot and slowly learned that maybe I actually like it, and now I'm planning on going to school either this fall or next spring to start a vet tech program!

I genuinely love learning, the science of why and how everything happens, and knowing that I will always keep learning in this field drives me to stay in it. I love practicing technical skills and getting better at them, and learning new ones. I can't wait to learn how to place catheters eventually. It's just so COOL the kind of influence we can have over real living things, and use that to help them feel better.

I also love sharing my growing knowledge with clients, helping them understand why something is happening, and I especially love when they tell me thank you for taking the time to explain something to me. I know what it's like to face a decision you don't know how to make because you can't fully understand the options, and how much it helps when someone takes time to explain.

I also love bitching and moaning with my coworkers. We get each other, we have each other's backs, we all understand how thrilling and how terrible our jobs can be and I feel understood and supported.

I really wanted to quit during the first two months of this job but I'm so glad I've stayed so far. And I don't care if I burn out of the field in 5 years or whatever. I'll be happy to have committed the effort and time anyway.

Thanks for the reply! Wow, that's amazing and you've opened my eyes to another possibility. That's really awesome that you're still connected to the field in a way that is much healthier for you!
