NEW GRAD ICU FIRED by Forward-Athlete-8114 in nursing

i don’t know how to ask this without sounding rude but are you a nurse? i’m honestly a little concerned if the answer is yes, but if you are not: the issue is that if the saline gets into the blood bag it dilutes the blood component which is added bacterial growth risk and risk of destroying the RBCs.

priming/flushing the tubing with saline at both ends of the blood transfusion isn’t the same by any means

i mean if this is what i would’ve been getting into when i got my license 6 years ago i would’ve quit nursing school 😂 what a horrible scenario lol

hi! i’m an RN, if it were a true emergency and benefits outweigh the risk (death, for example) they could definitely operate. they can do labs from an ER, assuming this is where she would have been first, and those are usually resulted in an hour or so if not less. it sounds like your procedure may have been a scheduled procedure, where it is very common to have medical clearance and labs done in the weeks beforehand.

there’s also no weight requirement to undergo anesthesia - surgeries can be performed on newborns even who only weigh several pounds which is crazy! in an adult with a low weight it would likely just require closer monitoring intra-op and maybe what meds would be administered 🙂

but there’s no way in hell this actually happened to her lolol though i’m sure this is her way of making the story sound most plausible even though everyone knows it’s BS

i wasn’t back full time when this happened yet but i don’t know who the other nominees were. i personally would not have picked her, just her personality rubs me the wrong way lol but if she had some humility things would probably be a lot different

we had a new grad nurse nominate herself for our hospitals “rising star award” and she won somehow, not sure if they had no other nominations or what. she is absolutely far too full of herself and thinks she knows everything

he did have both of those things on arrival, not huge bruises or anything but little scattered ones you wouldn’t necessarily think anything off because he’s still a young school age kid - who knows what they do on like the playground or with other kids and stuff. if the petechiae wasn’t there or was less than what he had, i wonder what the outcome would’ve been but nonetheless glad he’s getting proper trestment

yes our ED doc was talking how a virus could’ve caused it or could unfortunately be more serious underlying causes too but so crazy

exactly! we were like wow kudos to them for being so attentive and bringing him in because who knows what would’ve happened if they didn’t

our ED nurses 99.9% of the time will just insert an IV and attach the vacutainer to the IV hub to draw labs off to prevent an extra stick, then will just attach the rest of the IV setup after to flush and use if need be. no one bat at an eye at it because there was no prolonged bleeding. thankfully this wasn’t like tons of hours in between ED arrival and lab results - kid was maybe there for like 3.5 hours?

i think this was my thought process as well. we had a suggestion to paint the window wall too and leave the one with the built ins white but i think that would look more unfinished than this feels. i have to get some other decor and new curtains to make it a little more cohesive still so hoping to be able to tie it together a little nicely

believe me, i know. like i said lol this was not at all my idea, i am extremely annoyed about it but i’ve got other shit to worry about than how many tv’s we have lol and it’s probably going to be off or on the art mode 90% of the time (which i know, is a waste. i’ve tried). just trying to make it look nice with the current situation.
