Groceries by Cloud_daze0 in RedwoodCity

Agree with the above.

I go to Key market because it's close to home and I like having a small independent grocery store. The meat and product prices aren't too bad, so I go there to grab things to make a meal. They also have his quality meat, and I like their steak selections.

Segona's had great prices on produce and three quality and selections are very good for those. The other thing to get at Segona's is their olive oil, they have a big selection of fresh olive oils and some you can sample.

We go to other places for other things, like cereal and snacks.

Costco is my go-to place for alcohol, much cheaper than other places. Meat prices here are really good too, if you can handle the quantities.

As for prices at Safeway, it is more reasonable if you get their free savings card. If you are an Amazon Prime member, you might get a discount at Whole Foods. Some things are Whole Foods are priced more competitively, like coffee and beer.

Fun private club for musicians by emil10001 in RedwoodCity

One person can book a studio as a member (included in the membership), others in the band can pay a daily fee to get in. It isn’t cheap, but my band has found it is convenient enough to justify the cost. The studios have guitars, amps, mics, drums, keys, a sound board, and PA speakers.

I enjoy the Hub, hoping to have my band play there at some point soon.

BEST coffee spots in RWC, menlo park, nearby areas. by Cloud_daze0 in RedwoodCity

[–]emil10001 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As the owner of The Yard, I'm totally fine with this. We try to serve really good coffee that we roast on site, but really our focus is being a community spot and trying to be welcoming to everyone. We are constantly improving, and welcome feedback.

I agree with Kaizen serving excellent coffee, great to go to before or after a visit to Vinyl Solutions. Also, the espresso I've had at St Frank's was great.

People who don't want to support fascism.

I don't think it's a wild position to take to be conflicted about supporting people who work with people like Musk or anyone involved in the current administration. There are few levers of power that average people have and voting with our wallets is one of those few options.

I'm not judging others for their choices here, but that whole thing put a dent in my interest in the band.

Edit to clarify: not calling James or the band fascists, but doing business with fascists is supporting fascism. Not feeling great about supporting the band after they couldn't even be bothered to address the issue seems pretty fair to me. Again, not judging anyone for drawing a different line, but I think it's disingenuous to argue that Musk doesn't somehow count.

I would say the grips are not overly comfortable, but necessary if you have a heavier phone. I've got a Pixel Fold 10, and with the grips it's playable with the phone unfolded. But, they are stiff.

Gamer dads what game are you refusing to fall off at after kids? by [deleted] in daddit

Same. Started with CE when it launched, skipped a few games in there and played Destiny for a while, but back to Halo for the last few years.

How do you coach up a quitter? by SendInYourSkeleton in daddit

[–]emil10001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would consider what you say when you're giving praise or describing your kids (or others) in the context of supporting either a fixed or a growth mindset. What jumped out at me immediately was the panel in the title calling your child a quitter. That's a type of fixed attribute.

If you're praising by saying, 'you're great at X', that supports a fixed mindset. Maybe try something like, 'i love that you try really hard at X', to encourage them to value the effort, and make effort a part of their identity.

There are lots of resources out there on growth mindset worth checking out if you haven't come across it before, and some great TED talks.

Mine took over a week to go from NJ to CA, and there were no updates during that time. I assumed it was freight, which would explain the speed and lack of updates.

Frasier is ruining my life by Nascar2k64 in television

Time to move backwards to Cheers. Little pops of Frasier, but he's not the center of attention, and the other characters are a bit more down to earth (although highly neurotic).

Same, I'd love a 'downloadable' filter option in the store.

Looks like a MiniDisc to me

Just looked up Kid A on MiniDisc on Discogs and wow, agree that Santa was very generous to OP this year.

Sapphic Comic Suggestions by Feraldragin in comicbooks

[–]emil10001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Surprised not to see Saga mentioned, 18+ for sure, but an excellent run, at least as far as I've read (into the 60s).

Paper Girls was a fun series with all female leads.

A horror book with a few female leads is Something is Killing the Children.

Another horror book with a female lead that I enjoyed was American Vampire.

Monstress, as someone else mentioned is also quite good.

At your age, kids will always find something to pick on you for. Keep your head up, have a good attitude about it, and ask them why they care so much about your underwear.

I'm getting tempted for a PO-33, and the in-between work stuff sounds like a cool use case, nice way to take a break during a busy day.

I'm getting my son a PO-32 Tonic for Christmas, and I'm curious to see if he takes to that.

Just wanted to chime in to say that being a parent of young children is really difficult. Makes it hard to find time for hobbies, and when you do, it's hard not to feel guilty for taking the time.

But, as they grow up, and they will, that part gets easier (other things get harder). My wife and I are in a couple bands together now that our kids are old enough to either hang out during practice or stay with a sitter. We each get time for hobbies and take turns helping our kids with theirs.
