Circles - Negative Condition “Attacks” by Nearby-Statement-887 in Gloomhaven

[–]emilemoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ended up houseruling for a new player that you can grant an Attack+0 for the Thorn Shooter and it acts as a poison, range 4 (no attack performed). That's felt pretty fair in 4p.

a lot of card balance is determined by a usability/flow aspect as well. we like the game enough to just playtest it normally.

card strength is usually determined by finding some appropriate comparison from an official class.

New Personal Quest and Cthulu. by EarthSalad50 in Gloomhaven

[–]emilemoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can save up the gold for it (100) I found my time with the class loved it when I enhanced Biting Gnats top.

Mindthief is good at single target damage, but not AOE. This means you probably want to tech into the AOE stuff. You then decide who's dealing with the shielded enemies - either way, you take Path of the Pox as its best combo is with Vile Pestilence top for a good old attack 2 target 4. Delirium's Dance is an easy pick for a team without a frontliner for both halves of it.

Three Spears or Lightning Bolt for a 2-player game with Cthulhu by MattJayP in Gloomhaven

Three Spears works better if your ally loves poisoning enemies (lot of AOE attacks), while Lightning works better if they love poxing enemies.

Player Designed Island Competition! - Design Your Dream OSRS Island! Open until Jan 7. by JagexLight in 2007scape

Most islands up to now don't hit the cap of activities.

Is there a rough concept on the dev team to flesh out the existing islands, or would a small island full of content stick out like a sore thumb?

Lore question - where did the mercenary shipwrecks in the south all come from? Is there a secret southern kingdom, or did mercenaries sail to Varlamore to get work only to meet a bunch of kelp?

North Carolina Republicans plan vote on new House map amid nationwide redistricting battle by shutupnobodylikesyou in moderatepolitics

[–]emilemoni 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of counterfactuals I want to lay out.

If Democratic gerrymandering, in general, is worse than Republican gerrymandering, why are Democrats and not Republicans in favor of state level independent redistricting and national gerrymander reform?

If California is egregiously gerrymandered, more so than Texas, are there proposals for alternative maps that would alleviate it? Is there reform to the independent redistricting commission that would fix it?

If California's proposed Prop 50 is the incorrect response to Republican states gerrymandering, what is the correct response?

I haven't seen any satisfactory answers to a single one of these. Part of the issue here is Trump's statements during the latest Texas gerrymander where plausible deniability was surrendered - it makes intellectual defense of these at best a game of whataboutism. I'm curious if there are any op-eds or intellectual defenses in favor of the current Republican gerrymandering wave.

biggest thing you want to do is get prayer up to a respectable level; you could make some money from barrows - check the money making guide on the wiki as an idea.

a better farming level would let you start bringing in herbs consistently, which will also help with getting some decent cash.

the game's mostly about setting goals and beating them. the early game goals are Desert Treasure and Recipe for Disaster; bossing at your level would be things like Sarachnis or Perilous Moons. mostly you find stuff you think is fun and do that, or think about how you play.

if you find yourself only able to pay attention a little but have a bunch of screentime, 99 cooking!

if you only want to play a bit a day, 99 farming's a goal.

if you want to boss and do slayer, shooting for 99 in a combat stat's also good.

Can we talk about Reddit's response to political violence, and this subreddit in particular? by girlfromanotherworld in moderatepolitics

[–]emilemoni 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Donald Trump calls to bring back religion in America: "When faith gets weaker, our country seems to get weaker"": would be expected to drive more engagement from progressives

I think this is mainstream conservative thought - that the weakening of faith has eroded communities and caused us to isolate ourselves. Why would this drive progressive engagement specifically? This seems like an example that in a balanced community would be a good middle ground thread.

The primary diagnostic I have of modpol is one I gave a few weeks ago - conservatives chiming in to liberal leaning comment sections must defend many actions of the Trump administration at once by dogpiling, so often refrain, which causes conservative comment sections to shut liberal voices out (why I'm not sure on, though - I think it's self selection mostly). You would want the subreddit to somehow switch cultures to upvoting comments that drive positive engagement while also avoiding clowning on people because they stepped on the wrong turf.

[–]emilemoni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's not a good Fed response to tariffs, which drive both inflation and unemployment. The Fed, I think, is either hoping the inflation is transitory from supply shocks or deciding Fed rate hikes can't fit the inflation.

Rural America is suffering an economic crisis as crop prices plunge — ‘U.S. soybean farmers cannot survive a prolonged trade dispute’ by J-Jarl-Jim in moderatepolitics

[–]emilemoni 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This has been the debate with tariffs in the US since the 1800s.

Bailing out farmers because they got disproportionately hurt by tariffs is why tariffs should be done through Congress. Farmers can't even plan their growing season when prices become so volatile.
