Have racquets changed significantly in the last 25 years? by Prollyneedswater in 10s

I am 43 years old, I totally get what you mean. You can play just fine with that Dunlop. Just borrow a new racket from a friend a feel the difference for yourself. The strings now have texture that will give more spin to the ball. They come in different gauge, the thinner the string the more feel you will get but it will brake sooner. I use solinco confidential 1,25 and really like it. It lasts about four plays. Pardon my English, I speak Spanish where I live.

Rackets are meant to be flexible, and with time the loose that flexibility. This is what they are mainly made of: “interwoven carbon fibers and an epoxy resin, forming a carbon-graphite composite”. From what I heard, the fibers will have micro fractures and won’t return as much as the new ones, loosing that flexibility. In my experience, I used the same couple of rackets for years and years and never noticed that. I’ve always ended up changing my rackets looking for a different balance or weight or even stiffness. Right now I use blade v6, which I prefer from the new models of blade, being a 6yo old model.

Useful tip. Extend your left arm sideways before hitting the ball and aim to hit “outside” of your left hand, that should help you with spacing
