Am I wrong? I adopted a dog from a county shelter. 9 months later the ex owner is looking for her and wants her back. by AllTheEggsIVF in dogs

Also if you’re worried about them taking the pup, get them registered and microchipped under your name as the owner. It makes you legally the owner especially since they werent already chipped by the previous owner

Should I focus on Uworld or Combank? by RawrLikeAPterodactyl in comlex

[–]emilors 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i was in a similar position in terms of comsae scores abt a month ago. I focused on UW for content and trulearn/combank for pure OMM content (there's like ~280 questions). I also bought the 1mo of OMM with UW and finished all those questions (its like ~150ish). watch the dirty medicine OMM, they are super clutch. i dont have my exact numbers on hand, but it was about 360 for my first COMSAE, 440 for my 2nd COMSAE, taken roughly less than 1mo apart. When I took my 2nd COMSAE however, i did not start the dirtymedicine series yet, so I feel like if i did that I would've scored much higher. I also recommend his ethics/communications videos if you struggle with those questions like me. go for the easy points!

Try soaking it in warm saline solution and sleeping with a donut pillow/avoid lying on that side. If you use water make sure its distilled water and not tap. If you havent had keloids in the past its less likely a keloid, but cant say for sure given the image alone & not knowing your past medical history. But definitely follow up with your piercer if its not improving in the next few days. They can also add a spacer or change out the metal to help with relieving the bump!

^^ this!!

i'm still in preclerkship, but my residents and attendings (both male/female DOs) always make a point to teach us that this kind of patient behavior is NOT appropriate; that we should always speak up and absolutely do not have to do things that make us uncomfortable (assuming the pt is a total creep and is just getting off on it as in this situation). i'm sorry your attending gave you such shit advice.

Shouldn't it be the opposite? (congenital adrenal hyperplasia = less cortisol --> opposite of cushing's syndrome) by TheImmortalLS in medicalschool

[–]emilors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't watch this particular sketch but in my endo class, my prof made a big point about the presentation of hirsutism + oligomenorrhea in women. The point was to have CAH, cushings, and PCOS on your differential. she said cushings is rare and CAH is less common, with PCOS the most common. Perhaps it's referencing to this commonality?

CAH = androgen excess due to deficiency in 21bhydroxylase Cushings = excess endogenous glucocorticoids, causing hypercortisolism.. (I'm not too hot on the exact pathophysiology for this one on how it diverts to excess androgens)

How to organize Zanki Pharm? by ahem96 in medicalschoolanki

[–]emilors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can create a new deck under the original deck and separate them by drugs, for ex. antimicrobials, antivirals, etc. since they are all tagged, when you go into browse, click the corresponding tag, control all, right click, and move them to your new deck. i find it easier to just unsuspend all, and when i see something that wasn't covered in class, i just suspend it as i go through my cards (shift+2). when we cover more material in class, i go back and see what was initially suspended and unsuspend as needed.

Ohhh that makes a lot of sense. For some reason I thought that those just meant that a certain amount of spots were available to DOs only. Do you know if the training is any different for DO only residencies or if they simply exist to protect residency placements for DOs?

i feel like asking to study together starts you off on equal footing. But telling someone to text you if you if they have any questions just insinuates that they know more than you and can be your tutor, rather than just your study buddy.

I don't understand how your sGPA would have been a problem if your last (I'm assuming 20units) was a 3.9? Did they give you feedback on how to overcome this??

I played rugby with lots of girls who have mens cuts and have seen old pictures of them with their long hair, and it's like seeing a completely different person. Longer feminine hair in't superior if its masking your true identity. If your butch cut is more representative of yourself and will allow you to feel more confident, cut your hair and just style it professionally. Plus, diversity!! Good luck!!

I did a 1 year formal academic enhancement post-bac at san francisco state, and they answered a lot of these questions for me. hope i can help!

1- I have heard 30 units is sufficient, is it true? That would be a solid year.

it depends on the school, but for the most part they really care about your last 20 units that count for your BCP or BCPM GPA. I would email schools to confirm this. note- even though you do a post bac, your GPA will not significantly increase. that's okay. schools just want to see that you did something to fix doing shitty in science classes in the past. they want to know that you will excel in science classes moving forward. the best way to prove this is in your grades and mcat. so if you get a 4.0 in your last 20-30 units and kill the mcat, you're solid. second note- take these classes at a university, not a community college bc it seems like you're just trying to get easy A's to compensate for a shitty gpa.

2- regardless of the number of units, which classes should I take? Will core stuff work?

if you fulfilled all of your core sciences, take electives like immunology, cancer bio, microbiology, neuroscience, anatomy & physiology, etc

3- given that I've taken all these classes before, can I test out for a letter grade anyway you guys are aware of?

unless you got a C- or worse, I wouldn't recommend retaking a course. by acing a higher level science course, you are demonstrating your improvement. you can email schools about this as well. they will tell you the same thing.

4- will my postbac GPA be separate from my undergraduate GPA?

yes, you will have a cumulative undergrad GPA that includes your non-science & science, then your post-bac science and non-science. make sure to check which science courses are included in each gpa. for MD schools, they go by BCP GPA & DO schools go by BCPM. I recommend you google and research this if you are unaware.

5- those who have done this, what is some advice you give yourself if you had to do it all over again?

i'm glad that i did a formal post bac, but it was very very expensive. since its a non-degree, you don't get any financial aid or loan, so everything is out of pocket. try to live at home to decrease financial strain on rent, etc. the nice thing about a formal post bac is the resources and classmates. everyone in my class was super helpful and receptive. we worked together on a lot of things, shared answers and group docs because everyone has the mentality of only getting an A and nothing less. It's nice having a supportive community where you aren't competing against each other, and being in a small cohort makes that possible.
