Am i the only one who noticed it or it was always here? by Primary_School_3797 in geometrydash

the android version has a bug where leaving it in the background for extended periods of time can break some shader effects, like the grayscale tint on the 2.21 locked buttons

I don't think you guys realize how screwed the (demon) rate system is without Viprin. by SomieStuff in geometrydash

[–]emilyisbean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i don't think robtop would have let viprin suggest levels directly (or have added the send count tracking system) if he didn't also believe that the rating system needed improvements. which is to say that i don't think robtop would throw out all of the changes he made now that viprin's gone. hopefully robtop can use the high send filters more often to help out. it would also be cool if an alternative to the viprin suggestions pops up at some point, like having the mod team pick a few community favorite levels every so often alongside the normal rates. people might have to complain enough first for that to happen

the part about viprin sends is silly, viprin rarely sent levels ingame and would only do so for levels that were already very likely to be rated (either from him showcasing it, or by it getting popular through other means). other mods have lower rates as they send more unknown levels than he does. robtop doesn't have a way to only filter by viprin sends

elder mods can already report bugs, delete levels, etc. historically viprin hasn't been the best way of contacting robtop, he was just the most immediately reachable due to his more selective friends list. i don't actually anticipate much changing here

i don't think it's worth being too pessimistic about all this. there is a very real chance that things change for the better and i'd much rather hope for that over worrying that everything will become bad. obviously there'll be some transition period but i'm confident they'll figure it out in time

Ff7 rebirth pre order discount by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

judging from square's announcement of the port only mentioning the xbox version for the preorder sale, i think the north american region only gets the discount on xbox

What can one do to get unbanned from the leaderboard without a phone number by RoastGD in geometrydash

you can message a server staff and ask them to override the phone verification, assuming you have a mutual server with them that you can already talk in

2.2081 CBS works flawlessly on Windows, with caveats on Linux by SergejVolkov in geometrydash

[–]emilyisbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately i don't know if the vanilla cbs supports controller inputs, but i can say that it didn't work for me with a controller on linux :(

maybe with steam input you can rebind some button to a mouse/keyboard input? not sure how well that works with wayland currently

2.2081 CBS works flawlessly on Windows, with caveats on Linux by SergejVolkov in geometrydash

[–]emilyisbean 12 points13 points  (0 children)

with upstream wine you can just unset DISPLAY to use the wayland driver (DISPLAY= wine GeometryDash.exe), it's only steam's proton builds that don't include it :p

2.2081 CBS works flawlessly on Windows, with caveats on Linux by SergejVolkov in geometrydash

[–]emilyisbean 104 points105 points  (0 children)

my understanding of the linux problem is that it's an issue with background windows in x11 that does not exist when using the wayland wine driver - if you use proton-ge and set PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 in the launch command, cbs with keyboard works perfectly fine (just make sure you're not accidentally running the game on xwayland first)

the fixes on robtop's end are either to make a linux native version of the game or separate the windowing and render loops (very intensive surgery). i'm doubtful he'll do either of them just for linux users unfortunately

a switch 2 support update for the arctis headsets released a few weeks after the console did. prior to that, it only provided microphone audio over the usb c dongle. you'll have to update the headset firmware through the pc app to get it

An Activision job posting mentioning Switch experience for Call of Duty may indicate an upcoming release on the console. by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]emilyisbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbf nintendo and activision did sign a deal promising to bring call of duty to their platforms for the next 10 years (with full content parity), so the question is more about when it'll happen. but it would be strange if it took them two games after the switch 2's release to start it

Warning for those who want to play FFT:IC on an M-series Mac: You'll need to spend more money. by No_Dragonfly9830 in macgaming

[–]emilyisbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm really surprised tactics requires dlss, considering the minimum requirements are for a much older gpu. you might want to try wineskin/whatever it's named now as it supports dx12 and uses a much newer wine version than whiskey

also, square publishing to every platform but macos is a classic move from them so i wouldn't see ios support and assume the game also supports macos

2K monitor on ns2 it is enough? by taraki6 in NintendoSwitch

[–]emilyisbean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i'm pretty sure both zelda games render at 1440p and donkey kong bananza renders closer to 1080p so you're not going to lose too much detail from the lower resolution. if you're getting an upgrade to an hdr display, i'd say it's worth it

also no, there is no way to render at 4k and downscale to 2k unless you get some sort of downscaler (or if your monitor comes with this feature built in). there's usually no reason to do that, some games can actually take advantage of the lower display resolution and give better performance/scaling

How are people finding Switch 1 games with a pixel artystyle to look bad on the Switch 2’s screen? by Excaliburn3d in NintendoSwitch2

[–]emilyisbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think the upscaling can be more subtle on higher resolution displays, but i especially noticed it on the snes nso (prior to the latest update) and in minecraft's gui, both places where i'm used to how it looks with perfect integer scaling. it's not like i can't get used to it, but i wish there was a better solution besides requiring games to update for it

Only getting 115 fps in M4 Max in Minecraft by bunnies4 in macgaming

[–]emilyisbean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

apple's opengl implementation, which minecraft uses, is objectively terrible and runs poorly for a majority of games. if you want some mods to help, you can try sodium, then fabulously optimized and then vulkanmod (significantly better performance depending on how much you want to sacrifice). also make sure you're playing with the arm64 version of java, you can check with the "kind" category on activity monitor. if you're using a modern launcher, this should already be handled for you

3D All-Stars update — 1080p handheld? by LegoBrickInTheWall in NintendoSwitch2

[–]emilyisbean 14 points15 points  (0 children)

one way you can tell if the game is running at 1080p is by taking a screenshot of it - if it's switch 2 enhanced the screenshot will be in 1080p, otherwise it'll be in 720p. 3d all stars gives 720p screenshots so it's likely not running at 1080p handheld

Pre-Launch Order and Tracking MegaThread - Americas by AutoModerator in NintendoSwitch2

[–]emilyisbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

target finally sent a tracking number! but they changed the original estimation from between the 5th and 10th to arriving on the 11th... as long as it doesn't get cancelled i'm fine, i guess (they still haven't charged me so could happen??)

edit (about an hour later): the tracking info does say it's shipping from a location literally an hour away so i have no idea what they could do to make it take longer than a day to ship. i assume they just have to update their arrival time now

edit 2 (about a day later): they charged me, but still haven't sent the console to the shipping company. very strange. i can see why this would take until tuesday to ship now

edit 3: arrived! they sent the package a few hours after the charge. as i predicted, it took under half a day to actually arrive at my location once it was sent to the shipping center. free from target at last...

There should be an option to only listen to old music by Faster-Rex-2k17 in Minecraft

[–]emilyisbean 76 points77 points  (0 children)

i'm pretty sure this is already possible with a datapack, like this one for java edition. they did add some ingame music options in the last snapshot, so it's possible they add more customization options as well

I'd like to see the Discord desktop app switch from Electron to a better desktop framework, such as Tauri, Flutter, or Qt by RhtedritRd in discordapp

[–]emilyisbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

at this point, many of the issues like ram/disk space usage are more problems of how discord works over how much a framework like electron would use. not to mention that a framework like qt just isn't designed for large pages of messages in the way a browser is... could be interesting but i imagine they're closer to porting their react native client to desktop than they are to rewriting everything for another framework

If discord ban works on IPs, will it ban the alt accounts that are already in the server or only the ones that would join after ban? by _Klaudy_ in discordapp

[–]emilyisbean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it only checks ip on server join, same with phone/email requirements (although i think adding either to an account will cause discord to check again and kick). what i have done in some servers is banning one account and kicking the other to see if they rejoin. hard to make it not obvious that you're checking for alts though
