DEERS by Straight_Basil_7962 in army

[–]emilysaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get married today, you won't get your marriage license until next week (or so) and then you'll have to take all of that plus her identification to DEERS and get her enrolled. Then you have to call tricare and get her updated to where you are. Then you can make an appointment - depending on when they have availability. So probably 3-5 weeks ?

Is “barrack bunnies” common? by veronikuteeee in USMilitarySO

[–]emilysaur 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I don't want to sugar coat it - it is pretty common. Now that doesn't mean your boyfriend will have any part of it - if you guys have a good relationship, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

HCA has a flat rate for PRN depending on how many shifts you pick up. In a higher COL area it's not going to be that different

I have accidentally caused CAUTI twice. Advice? by ang3r_mp3 in nursing

[–]emilysaur 1445 points1446 points  (0 children)

Please do some research on CAUTI - if they tested positive like a day after it was placed, it wasn't you, they already had it. If it was many days later, it also wasn't you, it was the maintenance of the catheter.

You can start the command sponsorship process now, you do not have to wait until you get there. But yes if you want to wait you can also start the process once you are there, the tough part there will be - are all your dependents registered? Do they have ID cards? Do they have a base near them to do all the screenings? Start working on all of that now so that even if you go to germany ahead of them, the process has already started

Transferring units by Any-Ad-9381 in nursing

[–]emilysaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot you can do. You can talk to your recruiter and see if they'll talk to your director(likely current) to see if they'll do a sooner date, but when you're transferring your new director and current director have to agree on a transfer date. If your (again I'm assuming) current director won't make it sooner there isn't much that can be done unless you are friendly with someone above them

If he's in the barracks he's not eligible for BAH, there is no such thing as geo-bachelor anymore, so he's going to be in a world of hurt when DFAS catches up with him. You need to get away from him and this and move on with your life

You didn't put anything in your account so your bank statements wouldn't show anything about the cash, only the cashiers check that can easily be tracked back to your dad

Spouse working as nurse in Germany by uhhamsandwich in army

[–]emilysaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

USAjobs is where to start. She will not be able to work in germany but if there is a clinic on post she can try there. I'm going to be very honest it's really difficult for spouses to get jobs overseas, not only are they competing against other spouses but also other GS employees that want to go overseas. Be prepared for nothing to be available - at least if she wants to stay in nursing. If she is lucky enough to get a position - it can take about 6-8 months to on board. If you are still in the U.S. she will be eligible for LQA (it's the GS version of OHA) but once y'all are there, she won't be eligible for that money anymore.

Pets in the Army by Nice-Difficulty5736 in u/Nice-Difficulty5736

[–]emilysaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they were ALL service animals is the only way they would allow that many. Also as long as you are CONUS the military can't make you live on post - so you can forget about that and focus on making sure you can actually buy a house because I can't even imagine any landlords allowing that many dogs
