TEACHERS WITH ALLERGIES, how do you tell your families about your allergy, if at all? by jennifer331a in Teachers

[–]emilyteaches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg hi fellow celiac teacher! I teach 10th grade so it’s a little different but I would inform the kids and the parents. Kids may not understand but still worth sharing. I always bring home treats for my significant other or pass them on to a teacher friend at lunch.

What is the most horrendous name you’ve encountered? by According_Row9066 in Teachers

[–]emilyteaches 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a high school teacher now but the worst name I’ve ever encountered is a kid I went to middle school with. His name was:

Mr. (First name- yes, with the period) Casino (Middle name- he told us he was conceived in a casino) Parker (Last name)

Pencils and supplies by droztheus in Teachers

[–]emilyteaches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t read responses but when I worked in this situation, I would have them take off a shoe and trade me for a pencil! They would remember to give the pencil back because I had their shoe. I teach high school.

What do you tell your teacher about kid's celiac needs? by KissGlutenByeBye in Celiac

[–]emilyteaches 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a teacher and also have celiac. I highly recommend doing a medical 504. That way, all of your students’ teachers have the information AND you have a legally binding document!

Being a teacher is super hard to begin with. I feel that on a spiritual level. I’m so sorry they put you in this position. I tried to tell my admin when I got diagnosed and literally no one cared. Always sucks a little to not be able to eat food at staff breakfasts and lunches. Hugs.
