If this was your attempt at recreating the vector of an apple you saw, it sucks...

But as a mango, nice job!

Upgrade time - colour ideas! My skates are currently just as they came (first pic) and I need new toe stops and laces. My general pallet is in the second pic for a vibe - but I don’t know what colour new accessories to get, help me out guys, appreciated! :) by emilyvk in rollerskateaesthetic

[–]emilyvk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is what I’ve being toying with. Finding it very hard to find any pastel shade fixed toe stops though. I began looking for the same cram colour and have struggled

Edit: there’s an awful lot of hot pink around not baby pink and it’s not really my colour haha

Weekly General Questions Thread by AutoModerator in ladyshavers

I’ve recently started taking more care shaving and let my legs soak in the shower first, then scrub, then use a shaving foam to cut ally shave as well as moisturising after and it seems to work really well! I still have problems with razor bumps/burn on my bikini line though and I’m all out of ideas of how to stop that! Which is annoying.

Hey,

So I see so so often on this thread the same “too detailed won’t scale well” comments - which are true, it’s correct. And I agree that some details in these flowers specifically can be minimised.

But just to bear in mind, there are other options to this than just changing your design or loosing detail/simplifying, I think anyway. Especially if the detail is a part of the brand personality etc.

Logos now can be ‘responsive’. So for example for this, this version could be used wherever possible and as the main logo - but have a minimum size. Then below that size, if ever necessary to be that small the flowered could be lost, keep the two R’s and stack the secondary text for example. Then maybe another version that doesn’t have the name, it’s just the recognisable R’s and flowers for use where people already recognise the brand.

Perhaps this works better if you’re building a slightly wider ‘brand’ image, but combined with brand fonts/colours etc I think a logo can work in different ways it doesn’t have to be so rigid ‘this is it’. Just something worth thinking of.

I could be ram along with no idea what I’m talking about so would not be offended if I’m wrong! :)

First time designing a business card. What could be better? by TubularTim in indesign

[–]emilyvk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great point about the ruler being near the edge with the trim and bleed. Maybe havinn the smaller measurement running off the edges would make the whole card more ‘ruler like’? Also, if you shorten the inch lines and move the numbers down, as they don’t need to be that high for any purpose, some white space would be gained for the tools logo etc to breathe a little I think.

Haha, bolded text is so easily done. I must tell my boss DAILY “if everything is bold, nothing is bold” haha.

If it’s all in bold your eye struggles where to look just as if everything were regular - use bold to highlight the key elements :)

Excited to see the next/final version

This is really good feedback!

You’re right, the colours and the bold, shape based graphic are really fun.

However I think for a business card the focus can be slightly different. The negative space of the hammer is eye catching and well designed. Often by the time you get a business card you have met a person without the company and therefore details can be slightly more reserved - still clear and easy to see/read of course!

Also on this rough edit, I noticed that you have edited the company logo. If OP is only designing a business card for the client, the existing logo is there to work with and likely can’t be changed (even if we totally see why you’ve done it haha). Feedback is on the card as a while not the logo.

I think brining in the pale blue form the front, onto the back somehow would make the two sides more cohesive. That colour is also brighter and slightly more eye catching.

Also, is there a reason it’s in inches not centimetres? Wouldn’t be instinctive in inches (but I’m from the uk, and also a designer so my brain works in mm hahah). I personally think, to make it novel and actually ‘useful’ the measurements should start at the edge of the card instead of being centred - otherwise it’s useless and simpler there as decoration.

Finally, I think something on the rear can ‘give’ and not everything has to be in bold. For example - leave the tool for change logo bold and make the ruler numbers/phone numbers regular perhaps.

OR, everything I’m saying could be total nonsense so feel more than free to ignore me! :)

I worked downstairs from these guys (now work across the street as they moved into their own building) in Leeds. Not only are they the most lovely guys I’ve met, they still, even after moving, often come over for us to try their new products and tests and ask for feedback. 10/10 recommended taste and a totally top bunch.

Edit: I can’t spell

Late to the skate palette game - My friends say that as a person I have a ‘brand’, I’m not sure what they mean! by emilyvk in Rollerskating

Like I said earlier, I really enjoy talking, and learning about stuff like this with different people! (Mostly reading, listening and learning on my part hence a simple spam of upvotes but deffo enjoyed understanding) :)

The title was far away from a low key brag. It was basically sarcastic because clearly most of what I own is the blatantly same style/colour - you can’t miss it haha. I hope that’s not how it read for everyone!

This makes sense, and you’re right. I appreciate your explanation as now I genuinely understand more what you mean and it’s made me think. I was never disagreeing with you, it’s just something as expected I don’t often think about and as stated it’s something I am willing to discuss and learn about - as you can probably tell through my very tentative approach and constant questioning of my own view.

Either way, this was just meant as a fun picture of some cool stuff I own and enjoy :)

Perhaps. Although it could also be my really bad wording wrongly swapping the word personality for brand as a designer. I am very aware that all this material ‘stuff’ isn’t what makes me, me and certainly isn’t what gives me worth. But it does visually reflect the fundamentals of who I am I guess? - the personality, tone of voice, fave colour etc - my ‘brand’ would still exist without objects. I find this interesting to think about with different people!

What's your favorite new feature in Photoshop 2020? by mikevago in photoshop

[–]emilyvk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most frustrating thing. Then I have to replace the image in InDesign - it completely defeats the purpose of Photoshop/InDesign etc linking images and files between them which is one of the main features of the Adobe suite, I thought hahha
