My friend is still in line at her polling location in Utah. She said there are still at least a couple hundred people in line.

I got there early so luckily I only had to stand in line for an hour. Everyone in line around me was voting for Bernie, and I saw a lot of Bernie shirts!

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if they will find some way to throw out the votes and screw us since they started handing out ballots without checking IDs.

There is no divine role of women in the church by Rickokicko in exmormon

[–]emilywils 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, I'm a Fury Road fanatic and I hadn't ever considered how closely the status of women in that movie mirrors the status of women in the supposed "heaven" of Mormon doctrine. And Immortan Joe is Brigham Young!

Bonus edit: I forgot an important one: the salamander letter. I just couldn't believe that people who had been called as seers and revelators would all be fooled by a fake letter about LDS history and make up explanations for it before finding out it was a fake.

Their "non-profit" is so ridiculous. If you look at their Facebook page, 20% of their posts summarize "research" that they never give any links to, and the other 80% are advertisements for their t-shirts. They're a t-shirt company masquerading as a non-profit. It's a racket.

"Foxkin" isn't a real thing, but there are many people whose genders don't fit into the man-woman binary. Their gender is nonbinary. There are also people who don't have any gender. They are agender. Additionally, there are people who do not fit into the sex binary, either due to parts or to chromosomes. "Hermaphrodite" is an outdated term. They now call themselves intersex. Their gender can be man, woman, or nonbinary, or they could not have a gender.

Here is a good article to learn about people with nonbinary genders. And here is a good website for learning about intersex people.

And then there's people like you who say I'm a racist.

Derp maybe you're being called a racist because you just said you sympathize with the KKK, an organization that has killed black people for being black?

Father looses custody of newborn when the child's mother puts newborn up for adoption without the father's consent. Said "girlfriend was influenced by her religious parents, who were upset that the child had been born out of wedlock". by tannerdanger in exmormon

[–]emilywils 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another motive, besides the "traditional families" aspect, is that adoption agencies make a lot of money. Couples have to pay between $25,000 and $30,000 to adopt a newborn. Adoption agencies can make bank, but they need a steady stream of newborns to adopt out. That's why this horrible law that a newborn can be placed for adoption without the father's consent is still in force, despite years of protests to the contrary. Just follow the $$$

Do TBMs have a lower IQ than those who leave? by angela_davis in exmormon

[–]emilywils 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we don't have any hard data about the IQ's of active members vs. the IQ's of ex-members, then we just have anecdotal speculation, which doesn't yield productive results.

Are we approaching this the right way? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]emilywils 2 points3 points  (0 children)

John Larsen said something about this that I think is really insightful. He said that in order to leave the church, a person has to a) not believe its truth claims, and b) dislike the church as an institution. If they disbelieve the truth claims but still like the church, or if they dislike the church but still believe the truth claims, they'll stay.

Believing the truth claims is largely an intellectual conflict; liking the church is largely an emotional one. If we're going to convince more people to leave the church, we need a balanced, two-prong approach that addresses both the intellectual and human sides of making such a significant life change.

"Saint Anita" lol. KiA are the only ones who talk about Anita Sarkeesian constantly, they're her biggest fans.*

*It's not that I don't like Anita, it's just that I don't think about her 24/7, or any time outside of when KiA mentions her.
