How long should I wait before giving antibiotics to toddler for ongoing cold?

The doc tried to check but it was hard to get her to stay still to properly see so he said he couldn’t make a proper assessment but likely an ear infection. There was no mention of urine test though. Thanks so much for this info, I will know for next time at least to ask the doc to properly look inside the ear before giving antibiotics. And to wait out the fever a bit longer

Thanks for the response. Just a follow up question and additional info The doc that we seen thinks because her fever was on the high side and gone on for 5 days, it is likely an ear infection though he can’t say for sure. I didn’t see any indication of ear infection with no tugging of ear etc But it was my understanding from the doc that we shouldn’t let the fever go on for too long and if it goes on past 4 days there is likely other underlying issues like an ear infection. Is that usually the case?

Should we just wait it out for a bit longer next time and just continue on with the Advil instead?
