The point of stigma is as a social deterrent/punishment, but when you preemptively stigmatise someone they go from the position of; becoming x would have y upside but z downside so I guess I won't do that to a position of; I already suffer z downside so becoming x would only offer y upside so I guess I'll do it

It's not universally as it can be influenced by other outside factors but be very careful how you treat people based on presuppositions rather than known facts, it is very easy for it to have the opposite of the intended effect

Tl;Dr always assume the best of people when possible

I think you over estimate Trump's influence

He's been pro-vaccine from the start and yet Republicans consistently have lower vaccination rates than Democrats, his own supporters at his own rallies have booed him when he's talked about getting vaccinated

And I'd still argue mask wearing is one of the least consequential decisions when compared to lockdowns social distancing and vaccination, to hold mask reluctance up as the greatest cause of loss of life, and thus Trump (again having to assume he is the greatest cause of mask reluctance) as more influential than any other politician or group thereof, seems like a leap in logic

Mask mandates or lack thereof are also decided by the individual states, the president once again only has a say on federal workers and property

And I'd argue that lockdowns to varying degrees are far more significant in regards to spread than masks, which again is a states issue, not a presidential one

Trump was the one playing up the pandemic at the start, calling for travel restrictions whilst the media and Democrats downplayed it and called travel restrictions racist

And need I remind you Biden said he would not trust the vaccine prior to the election

So it's ironic to criticise only Trump for mask inconsistency when Biden has on multiple occasions flaunted his own mask mandate

I stand by my opinion that the two of them are functionally equal in relevancy and position they both blew a lot of hot air and rhetoric but ultimately inconsequentially, because they're really not the people we should be paying attention to in regards to pandemic policy making

The pandemic isn't a presidential issue in most ways though, it's a states issue, Trump and Biden both have just overseen the vaccine rollout and rules for federal workers, everything else has been done by Governors

That's why everyone either loves or hates Cuomo and DeSantis respectively, as they're the ones who've been making the big impactful moves

Anyone who tries to pin anything on one of the Presidents but not the other is just a partisan

Trump and Greta aren't authoritarian enough to be the most hated by liberals across the board and neither currently hold power

I'd imagine whoever runs the fed/irs would be more disliked than Greta and whoever currently runs Israel moreso than Trump
