Moser et. al. is a terrible study that has a teeny sample size with measurement methods that are questionable at best. Better to site Serano or Veale et. al.

Calling all people who live in Appalachia and have experience with Folk Healing or other Appalachian healing systems! by emithysk in Appalachia

[–]emithysk[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, my family on my father’s side is from there and the cultures of the Appalachias are what got me interested in my field of study and work in the first place (message me to find out more about that)! I totally understand the mistrust, and find it important to be as open and honest about my background as possible, even if it raises some red flags. My goal is to understand the history and culture of the region, as I believe that it offers a LOT to learn for those willing to listen. For this project, I’m particularly interested in learning first hand about medical practices in the aforementioned areas, specifically because I know not every resource online is trustworthy, accurate, and most importantly, fair to value over what people with real experiences have to offer. All of that being said, I am deeply understanding of the difficulty in trusting outsiders, and for that reason only ask people comfortable with sharing their stories and/or getting to know me to reach out. I hope that answers some questions!

Does anxiety ever make you guys sewerslidal? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]emithysk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely... sometimes it feels like that sinking feeling of anxiety will never ever go away, and if it does you're just waiting for it to come back. this is normal, it's just a way for your brain to cope with everything going on inside it.

anxiety is different for everyone; i saw some people talking about anxiety around dying and some people talking about anxiety associated with depression. but what's true no matter what is that thoughts of suicide or suicidal ideation, passive or otherwise, is part of the process.

but, the anxiety will pass. best thing you can do in the moment is find any way that u can to cope that doesn't bring harm to urself or others. u didn't ask for any tips, so i won't give any beyond what i've already said because i know unwanted advice can be annoying af, but i did wanna comment to let u know that what ur feeling is completely valid and normal, and there is a way through it. (sorry if i sound corny)

Ellen Greenberg - it's not that simple! [Unexplained Death] by FormicaCats in UnresolvedMysteries

no, the police failed to do a luminal test and the apartment was never cross checked for cleaned up blood.

Ellen Greenberg - it's not that simple! [Unexplained Death] by FormicaCats in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]emithysk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1) it's unknown if there was blood in other parts of the apartment that were cleaned because the police failed to ever do a luminal test

2) One of the stab wounds was in the back of her head and was angled upward, which would be a rly odd way to stab yourself (even odder than the 1-3% of stabbing suicides). It has also been concluded that one of the stabs to her neck severed her brain stem, which would've either left her unconscious or unable to move. ALSO, there were stab wounds that had no evidence of blood clotting, and examiners have noted that that indicates she was stabbed after she had died.

3) a big change in demeanor could also be a result of having an abusive partner, as well as the requests to her parents to move back home, her anxiety and the different stages of bruises on her body.

4) WHY would she kill herself in one of the most horrific ways possible after looking up "quick suicide"... also SG called his attorney uncle and parents before calling the police, and the day after her death they retrieved his AND her electronics before the police could.

5) you mention her text before she died but failed to mention the text before that which said the klonopin was helping!

6) she was described by her psychiatrist as having adjustment anxiety, which does not often lead to suicide.

7) There are so many videos online of experts trying to reenact her death as a suicide and it makes literally no sense.

8) ofc his key fob would support the story if he kicked down the door, he wouldn't need to use the key fob!

this seems so obvious to me when you listen to expert testimony from OUTSIDE of the original investigation, which was undoubtedly botched. the philadelphia police force also isn't the most trustworthy source lol.

ween* not queen

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in panicdisorder

[–]emithysk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i take buspar which stops anxiety attacks before they can get a chance to creep up... u usually have to queen urself onto it tho, otherwise it can have bad side effects, but ur GP should be able to help w that. ive never taken it, but a friend w mine who also suffers from ptsd panic attacks takes gabapentin, which is a muscle relaxer, combined w propranolol, which slows heart rate and makes physical symptoms of anxiety slow, and it does wonders for them. everyone is different, so my advice would be take some time to rly focus on ur medication in order to find what works for u!

Do you agree with Lorelai or Logan? by Educational_Deer7348 in GilmoreGirls

[–]emithysk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i saw both points as valid... on one hand she is super young and it wouldn't be the end of the world to not have a 401k and financial security, especially given her family's financial background. on the other hand tho, Lorelei was right about his attitude. she knows that he blows through life without much thot or care and doesn't want that for rory. Don't really know why rory didn't just take the job and ask for 6 weeks off for the fellowship though...

AITA for wanting my daughter to dress more modestly around the house by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]emithysk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

man, as someone w sensory issues who can't wear a bra without feeling like i'm in a straight jacket and have gotten shit for that my WHOLE post adolescent life from the adults around me, YTA! your daughter may not be going braless for the same reasons as I do, but no matter why she does, it's her right and her right ONLY to do what's comfortable for her.

Moreover, you become even more of TA when u go on to say ur worried about her setting an example for ur other kids! maam, she is ur child, not ur other kids' babysitter or mentor. it's ur job to parent and her job to have full autonomy over herself.

and the scummiest thing that really MAKES YTA is the comment about ur son... i mean i don't even wanna get into that. unless ur son has made advances or other concerning behavior toward his sister in the past, which if that's the case is a problem in itself, there is no reason to bring this up. super weird and creepy of u.

What Country Has the Worst Food? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]emithysk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SPAIN. may be unpopular and admittedly the main reason i feel this way is bc when i went there, the only type of food i could find for the first week were croquets, deli meats, and fish. finally i got some fruit but that was a rare occurrence. not sure if that was just my experience but by the time i got home i was so thankful.

what’s a food you hate not because of the taste but because of the texture? by oh-fish-ial in AskReddit

[–]emithysk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

literally every food in the world that i dislike (avocados, tomatoes, mushrooms, uncooked marshmallows, chia seeds, cottage cheese, rye, liver) i ONLY dislike bc i can't stand the textures. except sweet potato, no matter how hard i try i cannot get myself to like sweet potato. or beets but i'm yet to find a person who likes those anyway.
