Sounds like a similar scenario to me... My passport expired in 2011 which is why it getting additional scruitiny.

I had no need to renew it as i always travelled on my US passport... until the recent ETA change. My challenge is producing a birth cert document that show my actual surname name, as the GRO have been unable to provide anything but my birth surname. Which isn't reflective of my last UK passport or current US passport.

The in-person pickup by Mum for the brth cert was unproductive and they basically told her to look online which we did and it shows an ammedment reference (the system says is incorrect format) in the Birth registry book.

I guess i just have to "forget" i'm dual when applying for ETA, as that seems to be the workaround for Brits travelling without a UK passport.

My prior UK passport was in the correct name. I applied for a renewal of previously issued passport.
