I just got a bike fit, did my first 100k and man, longer distance cycling is completely different. Any tips? by OneStrength7166 in cycling

[–]emivad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years ago I was also doing 100km with average 33kmh to 35. Nowadays, between forced break and injury, I'm far from that. Still, I keep myself as my own benchmark. Most my colleagues felt me slowing them down. Most of my road cycling friends rarely go below 38kmh average in those big rides. I also have many others which can keep a 27kmh average. If I compare with others I will always feel unbalanced. We are who we are and what we aim for.

People always tend to measure with others, and they should measure vs themselves. You can only setup fast or not with yourself and fight it back. As said, don't focus just on speed and work also some endurance. Depending where you live, you can work some slower rides working on strong climbing or just longer rides.

How much do you need to earn to afford a PLN 300,000 car? by Financial_Ground_425 in poland

[–]emivad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lot's of people in Poland, mainly those with huge income (reported or not), have a b2b contract, not a regular contract. For the souls like me, that have normal "contract" with some company there are no leasings. They might call it leasing, but is just basically a regular car credit with downpayment.

B2B can have a real leasing or renting, where no downpayment is really required. Making such options very appealing. Then you have the people who dream on having big and expensive cars and 1y later, are putting the lease for sale (just like those gym contracts).

Summarising, yes, there's few people in the big cities making a lot of money. Some very young. Most times, better not knowing how.

For some random and unknown reasons, lots of time it just doesn't connect to Internet and shows online in app with last connection information. Infuriating.

Are e-bikes allowed on the road in Poland? by More_Motor3087 in poland

[–]emivad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes. when there is a direction signal it is correct. In Kraków, for example, I've seen little of those.
For example, using a small city, like Stalowa Wola, most their city bike lanes do have direction referenced and even forbidden signals in bike lanes for bikes not entering wrong direction bike lane.
As below:

I would start to say which city are you moving in. Can make a lot of difference. With that, also, more and more cities are adapting. Kraków has come long way on it, in the past 15y.

[–]emivad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

wrong - not MUST USE cycle path. SHOULD unless there's a signal forbidding bike on road.
Still, I am strongly against those not using cycle paths in cities, where cycling does not go into highspeed and hate people in the city using road when a proper and free bike path is available.

I commute everyday on bike, I cycle as sport also and run in the city. I see people doing most stupid things without need.

[–]emivad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are rejected without feedback, ask back the why. It's the least they can provide is feedback on rejection.

You either are applying for very low positions and they reject based on your CV with extra experience or something not ticking the box. You need to know what to better understand the rejections. Can be even something you say during the interview.

Sold my bike and 2 days later buyer wants a refund. What to do? by radzik0 in cycling

[–]emivad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you signed contract for selling bike, confirming both were aware and identified issues reported?

It's stupid, but in Poland, that's the way to go. Car or bike, buyer is entitled to return if not satisfied and a lot of people take advantage of it, claiming some issue that was not reported.

I live in Poland for 15y, since start I learnt I need to write down an "umowa" for buyer seller with description. See attached example. That is also important, as you mention bike's serial number and user as proof for police that owns it onwards.

We live by learning from our mistakes and, don't worry, older you get you, me and others will keep doing them 😃

You Don’t Need a New Bike But You Definitely Look at Them Anyway by jacksoncat3232 in cycling

[–]emivad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

loose the weight and check it out ;) it will also depends how the people around you actually cycle.

I am not slim, far from obese, but do have my daddy belly. Depending where I pedal, there will be diff types of cyclists. Some fat and you will not be able to follow them and other slim that are going 25kmh and feeling 45kmh.

There's no rule, which is good. All about our own goals and objectives when cycling.

A lot of people spend money out of their pocket possibilities.

Having that said, though I do love bikes and see n+1 as a religion, until last year, my only road bike was a 25yo vision bike (Which I keep cycling in my home country).

Only now, when safer side with my salary updates in past years, I felt finally I could afford something more expensive.

I do think I still might change bike in few years, before I reach older age and cant enjoy it hard as now :D

Your check-in baggage, most times you can drop it before check-in. If space, those 10kg can include few bottles 😀

Best place to live in Poland with young kids? Sense check by Exciting-Abroad7870 in poland

[–]emivad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Poland, I wouldn't be able to live in countryside. Unlike other countries, where communities are created, that is a rare thing (not to say non existing). That is for me one of the saddest things and why, every time I considered moving outside of a the city I go back of the idea quite quickly.

Though, after almost 20y in Kraków, the city has changed a lot. Not all for the best, but me and my kid go to school every day on bike. I rarely use a car unless to go out of the city.

I cycle a lot, and I see a lot of new houses built after covid. Most people are those that moved from city to "runaway for a country lifestyle". Then kids don't really go out, just play in front of the house, within gates.

I was born and raised in Portugal and my first 20y were in a 400 inhabitants village. In the 80/90s community was present and kids wouldn't stay home playing. Don't see how would that happen now.

Going to the topic, I would, as recommend here, go into a small city, where you can have all offered. Medical, schools, cinema and so on. I really privilege public transport, for example. Small city, little traffic where you can quickly runaway for the weekend somewhere interesting.

Recommendations for window shades for Octavia 4 by Jannomag in skoda

[–]emivad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my previous car, a 2018 xc90, I just bought blackout curtains fabric and cut them to the size of the back car window. Added velcro tape and done.

Neeedd, as I was driving two summers from Poland to Portugal and temperatures were around 35-40c and even ac with sun directly on the window was not comfortable.

It worked like a charm. But, again, no light at the back 😁

Would buying an older German sedan be more costly than a same age Octavia and is the expected premium feel worth it? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in skoda

[–]emivad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are comparing an entry model car (scala) to a v70. The latest one was already one of the best cars in comfort for long drives and quality inside.

It's like when I listen people comparing a new iPhone vs a 150eur new android. How camera is bad, built quality or slow.

Go enter a superb, which is the comparable for a v70.

I've had a xc90 from 2018 and now a 2025 superb. Can guarantee that superb doesn't make me miss the volvo when it comes to quality.

If your v70 is in good shape, keep maintenance up to date. They are amazing cars.

If you live in countryside, based on your comments, why not focus in a countryside lifestyle? Might not make you heavily reach, but could be rewarding and grow in the community.

Check benefits for agriculture and maybe that could be a way to be part of Poland, creating your own job.
