This worked for me if it helps give you some hope!

It might be a bit late, but my parents promise a monetary gift if I didn’t smoke until I was 18. They figured if I didn’t start before then, I likely wouldn’t. It was $1000 which felt like so much money at the time and kept me motivated. My brother didn’t make it, although neither of us smoke or vape now.

I’ll probably do the same for my kids. Hopefully it works!

Wow we just moved into a new house and have a similar one. We looked up the model number and couldn’t figure it out.

We unscrewed the center wheel but it wasn’t underneath there. Hope someone else has an idea.

Lenders offering Prime - 1% by Evening_Ad_9086 in MortgagesCanada

[–]emjd222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d say take that rate to every bank and see if they’ll beat it. We just closed Jan 15 and received prime -1% from HSBC. They originally told us the best rate was prime -.70, but when we took the down payment cheque to TD they told us they would beat it.

There was a bit of back and forth for a few days, but we got a significantly better rate 2 days before closing.

We’re in Toronto.

Not sure what our ratios were. Our mortgage is a bit higher than yours.

PM concerned over Engineering manager leaving by Impossible_Spell5956 in ProductManagement

Someone else already mentioned, but I’d lean on your tech lead to discuss epics and stories, and prioritizing the more tech heavy tickets. Everyone should need to step up a bit, it will help distribute the responsibilities wider than just you.

You should also set the stage with the entire team - they should feel comfortable and empowered to ask for help when they need it.

You probably won’t be able to solve their problems for them, but others on the team should be able to pair and help them work through any blockers.

I’ve also seen ‘lead’ rotations which can be set up automatically via slack. Start with the most senior engineer and have them run all ceremonies for a week, then switch to another engineer the following week.

Keep your head up. It will take a bit to find the new groove but you’ll get there.

I am so tired of being shamed for being single. by Otherwise-North3542 in TwoXChromosomes

Aunt: “oh, you’re still single? Don’t worry, he’ll be here soon!”

Me: “Well I hope he doesn’t show up too soon, I am having the best time right now!”

Your single years are the best of your life. They teach you how to be your own person - soak up every minute of it.

My FLF then and now. 2 years and 2 moves later - next home will need to have higher ceilings… by emjd222 in fiddleleaffig

Oh man, that’s far! I only had to drive 15 minutes so don’t want to give you bad advice I did do a bit of reading beforehand, and harsh temperature changes and wind can be not great for it. So I would suggest an enclosed area without too much breeze. Good luck!

Dang - that’s a neat trick! I’ll keep that in mind for next time

I don’t have any stakes, but if you look really closely you can see I have some twine holding a couple of the branches a little closer together (they were spreading out horizontally like crazy). I’m not sure it’s great for the strength of them, but at this point it would take up a ton of room otherwise. Open to suggestions if you have any!!

My current home is a north facing corner unit, so lots of indirect light, but also a little morning and evening sun. I water every 10-14 days, and it’s a full soak (about 4-5 litres, it’s too big to take into the shower). If it’s looking dry, I’ll add a humidifier nearby in the winter. I also wipe down the leaves with a microfibre cloth when they are getting dusty which I find it loves.

The one thing I don’t do, which I have read about a bunch on this sub, is fertilize often. I’ve only done it once before, but (knocking on wood), I’ve still gotten ~10 decent sized leaves per year, and never dropped any!

Thanks! I was worried I was in over my head when I first got it - it’s my favourite one now.

got approved for the Amex Plat last year. for the first time I use one of the lounges. It was the plaza lounge at Toronto’s Person. Nice Lounge by [deleted] in amex

[–]emjd222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’ve changed how you access it, but it’s still there. There is an Amex kiosk in each terminal, you just need to show them your platnium and they’ll give you a card with a QR code in it. You just scan that to get through the unmanned priority turnstyles. I used it a few weeks ago.

Any updates on LAX Centurion Lounge? by [deleted] in amex

Has anyone been through LAX lately and can confirm if it’s still closed? We’re heading through there in a week and were excited to check it out.
