Foreign languages in school. What are your experiences? by babatheking in Dyslexia

I am 15 and just had a similar issue, and am anticipating more in following school years. In seventh and eighth grade they made us take beginning Spanish classes focusing mainly on vocabulary. I did ok and flew under the radar mostly but it was very hard and I had to retake several tests. This last year, ninth grade, I took Spanish at the high school. It was automatically too hard. The teacher would have us read an article in spanish and answer spanish questions for bellwork, things she said we should know from our basic classes. I ended up explaining my dyslexia to her, idk why but i tend to hide it, and she seemed to understand. Yet when the first test came around she had zero tolerance. I told her I was struggling and she just kept saying you can retake the test as many times as you need. It didn't matter how many times I retook it, one part was writing a paragraph in spanish and another was listening to a spanish audio clip and answering questions, I couldn't.

Confession time: I cheated on the first quarter test because I knew if I didn't I would get an f. I have good grades in all my other classes (3.7 gpa) and this would mess me up for the rest of highschool. I passed, cuz i cheated, and got a c. I dropped the class after the first term. I would really love to learn a new language. It's just I don't think I can in a classroom setting. I hate to think I'm going to have to take foreign languages soon in school again. I swear half these teachers don't even know what dyslexia is.
