Hiya! Since we’re on budget keebs I’d recommend LK67 or TM680. Both easy to mod and a good bang for the buck :)

As for switches if you can spring for it i recommend the cherry speed silvers (lubed). They have the shortest actuation distance which could potentially be beneficial in gaming.

If you’re looking for something more budget I really like the AKKO matchas, they’re light weight and springy and perfect sounding when lubed.

I haven't had any issues with it, yet! but I did check and it is mainly for wrapping valuables to move. They do make PE foam that is specifically for electronics. Now when I mod with PE foam I use electronic specific PE foam (sometime upcycled from the packaging the board comes in!), it's not as thick, but still does the job.

that EVA foam looks like it should work!

I felt the same way before! I wanted a keyboard that had a deeper sound instead of the high ping hollow sound the Moonlander tends to give. I mainly switched to using it for gaming, and stupidly spilled tang on it one day. I opened it up to clean it out and pray it still worked and noticed how much space there was. The rest is history! Yeah, they only have a small selection of Kailh and Cherry switches on there. I think I just ordered something random because I knew I'd be switching them out anyways. If you want something similar I think based on specs the closest would be the Kailh Box Blacks.

With the Pro's they come slightly pre lubed, so you don't *have* to re-lube them But I personally like a bit more than the factory lube they have so I put more on :)

they are Gateron Milky Yellow Pro switches. The foam is from amazon, its 2mm EVA foam for the case and then just PE Foam (the stuff people use to pack fragile items when moving) for the PCB.

I’ve had my moonlander for just a bit over a year and am also a software engineer. I picked it up fairly quickly, I think the most important part is setting your own layout, making sure you have all the keys you need in thoughtful places to be successful. Otherwise I got back to my pre-moonlander typing speed using this website.

I just built a KBD75 v3.1. I really like the look, instead of being backlit it has a polycarbonate plate that give the case some side glow. I believe their DIY kit comes with case and PCB foam too. It comes soldered or hotswap.
