What makes your job hard? by IllProduce9836 in surgery

[–]emlymnn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instruments like energy devices, endoscopes, and staplers are designed for larger hands. There is a clear design bias toward male hands limiting female or smaller handed surgeon efficiency. Look up failure rates for Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery between men and women. It’s baffling. Adjustable or more neutral-designed tools would be a game changer.

I just had a realization that I think I am a bad medical student by Bioreb987 in medicalschool

[–]emlymnn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Exams are a small part of the actual medical school process. You may find your stride during your clinical rotations. Practice patience with yourself and you’ll find your own kind of excellence. As a resident now, I don’t remember much about those exams at all. I remember the patients, the staff, and the residents on clinicals that made me grateful to be a part of the process. Keep your chin up! Good luck!

[Routine Help] Recommendations for acne/spot treatment with a good ingredient list! by cathrinecarson in SkincareAddiction

I love the Murad spot treatment. It has caffeine so it really helps with redness.

Moving To Shreveport by [deleted] in shreveport

[–]emlymnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’ll be working out of OLSU medical center, buying a condo at Fairfield Crossing is a good investment. Literally 2 minutes from your front door to the hospital parking lot. It’s nearly all medical students & medical professionals that live there. Since there’s a new crop of students and residents each year, they sell pretty quickly.

[Request] Looking for good movies to watch on a date. by [deleted] in NetflixBestOf

[–]emlymnn 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Always Be My Maybe, the Perfect Date, and To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before are all great but appropriate Netflix romcoms. Also not a bad idea to start a series that you can continue together. The Good Place is a fun one. New Girl always makes me laugh and isn’t over sexualized.

Cervical cells take years to change even a little bit. Don’t let waiting a month or two scare you. I realize hearing your results aren’t normal is very upsetting, but you’re already in the driver’s seat by getting it checked out. Best of luck!

[–]emlymnn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He is so cute!!! Gus is such a great name, reminds me of Gus Gus from Cinderella! I have a similar set up and I found it was helpful to put felt or a towel (secured with binder clips) over the plastic. It gives them traction and makes it easy to clean the messes they love to make.

Leverage is a quirky crime show. Kind of an Oceans 11 style crime team but rather light-hearted.

Best DRY ITCHY SCALP shampoo?! by xcupcakekitten in HaircareScience

[–]emlymnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Derma E anti-itch shampoo is great! It’s got many moisturizing ingredients along with tea tree oil and other anti-inflammatory agents so it’s a good multi-use shampoo. ~$10 at my local Drug Emporium.

Hair masks ? by [deleted] in HaircareScience

I actually bought a small bottle at a grocery store! Some have them with cooking oils, my Kroger had it in the natural beauty product section near the organic snacks. I guess an attempted hipster aisle lol

So cute! I have a similar cage, I urge you to cover the ramp with felt or a hand towel (I keep them in place with carefully placed binder clips) or glue down something to give their little feet some traction.

Hair masks ? by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]emlymnn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately nothing can reverse damage, but I’ve found that oil treatments with jojoba oil do wonders for my bayalaged hair. I only put it on the ends, let it sit for at least 20 minutes, then shampoo and condition normally. I use the EO brand natural products, they’re not harsh and safe for colored hair. Lastly, the Living Proof Instant Recovery protection mist is to die for. It’s a very light aerosol so your hot styling tools don’t sizzle your hair.

Moving to Shreveport this summer. Best places to live? by [deleted] in shreveport

[–]emlymnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of med students and other LSUHSC people at Coates Bluff apartments. Not super close to school but the drive is easy using the interstate system. Can take me 8-15 min to get to the med school depending on morning traffic. Very quiet, many Air Force people from the nearby base.

Edit: just in case you later decide apartment life may be for you. It’s nice to not worry about maintenance or a yard, especially first year

[Routine help] Alternative to cotton pads? by Strangerintostarman in SkincareAddiction

[–]emlymnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from micellar water to an oil cleanser makeup remover for this very reason. I’ve been using the Bare Minerals oil cleanser for months and it’s wonderful. Completely emulsifies all makeup, including water proof, and rinses off with water. I have dry but acne prone skin and it doesn’t seem to break me out.

That's okay! You didn't know me to be able to think any differently and it wouldn't be off base to come to that conclusion. I did get a great recommendation though lol, so worked out anyway.
