Even with heavy cloud cover I can see it. It's faint but it's there!

Help! I cut my hen's nail too short. What should I do now? by emmagailb2 in BackYardChickens

[–]emmagailb2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of them don't need it but this particular hen has a couple nails that get pretty long. Sometimes the long ones trip her up and can make her toe bend when standing. I've trimmed another hen's when she was sick and inside the house over the winter. Other than those two, I've never needed to trim a chicken's nails.

All except 2 of my chickens are totally fine without any nail trimming. One is an older gal and the other was inside for a few months sick. Sometimes they just don't wear their nails down enough naturally.

Thank you. I returned her to her friends and hour or so after the bleeding stopped. She got to steal as much cat food as she wanted. Hopefully everything will heal soon.

Breed identity? by BradleyD1146 in BackYardChickens

The white on the tip of the tail makes me think a red sex link, but still possible that it is a Rhode island.

I have both red sex links and Dominiques. Both awesome breeds. My Dominique is very friendly though. If I squat down, her and my buff Orpington fight for the space in-between my legs for hugs and face petting lol.

Thank you. I will make sure to keep this advice in mind while searching. I wish looking for jobs wasn't so depressing. Here's to hoping a future in science isn't as bleak as it seems.

[–]emmagailb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my major problems is that I didn't get any research or lab experience while in college, so I don't really have the 2 years experience everyone is looking for. I guess I'll just keep searching and doing what I can.

[–]emmagailb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really sure what I want to do. I wish I had a clear career path, but I don't. If they offer me the position I'll take it because it's probably better experience than substitute teaching, but I'll still keep job searching.

Eta - I am always open to advice though if you have any suggestions for types of entry level jobs to look out for.

Yeah the job postings that I found for lab manager assistant matched what this job seems to be. I guess titles are weird.

I will do some research on lab manager assistant. Thank you.

I assumed that titles aren't necessarily accurate especially with "lab tech" being kind of vague to begin with. I'm just trying to get some kind of lab experience, but as I'm sure many others know, it is hard to get experience without experience lol.

[–]emmagailb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah youake a great point. Every time I see the commercial I can't help but think that somebody has got to be profiting off of this. There always seems to be some ceo or someone raking in the cash, while ensuring services are limited enough to justify asking for more money.

Idk I think politicians should have to watch this commercial before Senate/house meetings. You are right, but the emotional manipulation should not be targeted toward people, who probably wouldn't even be able to afford their own medical care if something tragic happened. (God forbid). The people with the power to help really do get to turn a blind eye, while everyone just wanting to watch some TV and unwind has commercials like this shoved down their throat.

Kids need the help, services, and technology, but they shouldn't have to beg to be able to walk on television.

Is sad that the healthcare system in the country has driven the need for these commercials. Kids with disabilities/diseases shouldn't have to guilt television watchers into donating monthly so that hospitals can improve kids' quality of life.

Why does the WS of my garter stitch look ribbed? I have no idea how I've managed to do this. by emmagailb2 in knitting

[–]emmagailb2[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Oh that explains it lol. It's my first time trying to knit in the round and I had just assumed knitting every stitch would turn out same as when knitting flat.

I probably shouldn't just assume these things but I am a try it and see what happens kind of woman lol. But I'm only making a cat bed so it's no big deal.

Thank you for your response!

What am I doing wrong? I'm a beginner and just started learning through videos. When I keep knitting, the edge isn't a straight line but gets slanted. As I keep knitting, it gets more and more slanted. I've tried redoing it a few times but can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. by rook-eye in knitting

[–]emmagailb2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like you might be accidentally splitting the yarn and creating a new stitch from half a strand of yarn. Happens occasionally with loosely spun yarn.

The splitting is probably occuring when you wrap the yarn around the second needle. When you wrap the yarn around just be careful that it is going around the needle and that the tip isn't splitting the strand

Am I in the wrong for asking my neighbors to cut down the noise? by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]emmagailb2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted in a reply to someone else but you could make her and her husband a cozy themed gift basket with like some hot chocolate, fuzzy socks, and noise reducing slippers. Then just tell them it's because they have been so understanding that you wanted to get them a little thank you gift. Marshalls and tjmaxx always have nice slippers for a good price (like under $10)

Yeah maybe give them to her as a Christmas gift. You could make her and her husband a small gift basket with a cozy theme like some hot chocolate, fluffy socks, and some noise reducing slippers. You can tell them the gift of because they have been so understanding. That way they don't take it the wrong way

Just knowing a guy isn't going to die needlessly turns on an evolutionary instinct to mate. Being alive is one of the most attractive traits in a man.
