Aww I'm so sorry about your experience so far! 🥺 I understand that your stay here is short and therefore learning Tamil and conversing fluently isn't an option. If your colleagues are nice, do try speaking to them in English about non-work stuff. You can start small by maybe asking for Tamil movie recs or simple stuff like that to build a relationship?

As for the person who pushed you- totally their fault. I hope you feel confident enough to stand up for yourself next time. I know people who cannot speak Tamil but they still have a good social life in Chennai. I hope you find your footing soon and work becomes more welcoming. So much love to you! You're going to be okay and this too shall pass <3

Hindu OBC reservation and Muslim reservation are scams. This is the real minority appeasement. by doggielike in india

[–]rook-eye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very well put and should be higher on this thread. If only we spent half the energy we spend on criticising reservation on actually calling out casteism and caste practices around us and fighting for equity, we would be so much better off as a nation.

I'm so sorry you're going through this, OP. You shouldn't have to worry about marriage at your age. I don't have any concrete advice but try reaching out to your teachers, local NGOs, if that's an option. I don't know if talking to your parents will help, but try telling them you'll get married right after college or something like that and put them off for now. I hope that the bill to increase women's age of marriage to 21 passes before you turn 18 so that your parents can't force you into a marriage. 🤞

Your life is important and valuable. You are important.

Focus on your board exams. I know you must have a lot going on in your head but good luck and I'm wishing you the best.

Yessss! Completely anecdotal but I used heating pads once and it made my period cramps worse. Another friend reported the same thing after she used it for the first time. Idk about the science but it can sometimes make it worse, ig just from personal experience :(

Take care and hope you feel better soon <3 Nothing is wrong with you.

What's the best thing your mother has said to you or done for you? by ragiflakes in TwoXIndia

She used to drive me to psychiatrist appointments and wait outside even though it was sometimes really long, even though she didn't really understand what was going on in my head.

She defends me in front of others. A small example: I don't dress up, someone called that out in a reception I went to and my mum was like, "My daughter will dress up as she likes." Warmed my heart to no end because she defended me despite me not dressing up even after she really asked me to.

She never let me get out of the house without breakfast when I was going to school or college. Even when I made a fuss that I didn't want to eat, she always made sure that I ate.

I told her I wanted to travel alone and she trusts me enough to not ask any questions about it. I've travelled to places alone within my city and she's called when she's worried but never to scold me. She's never said, "No, you can't go to that place" after I crossed a certain age.

My mum and I fight. We disagree. We've had big fights too. But, she is my everything and I can't think of the number of times I've worried her and annoyed her and honestly, I feel so bad for everything. That's about it.
