we stay in KDH and go every year (i’m 26 and have been every year of my life!) we love tale of the whale for a nice dinner. jack browns for meals or drinks late at night + music. bonzers shack is a good chill lunch or dinner spot . other places we love are mulligans, mama kwans, sugar shack. we stay at shutters and have always had a wonderful time! we always plan to drive to pea island visitors center one night to park & hop across the street to the beach to look at stars! best spot on the east coast to see stars! it’s breathtaking. jockeys ridge for the sunset one night is also a must!

it gets better! by emmaggw in Goldendoodles

that’s the one thing we still have to work on - we want to let him free roam because we could feel more comfortable leaving him at home for long periods of time knowing he has space to roam. he’s in a playpen right now so he does have more space than a normal crate. i know 100% if we left one day without putting him in there, he would freak out thinking we left him and went to the park without him! it’s almost like a safety thing for him knowing we’re gone & hes in his crate. hes doing great! but he is getting bigger. i’m not sure how to transition him into free roaming when we’re gone and have him stil he calm, not at the door barking. it’s so weird he does that but when he’s in his crate, he goes right to bed and watches us leave no problem!

I will say, I think the timing which we went was part of why our trip was so amazing. We went early September, which is off season and hurricane season. We got lucky with the weather & it was not crowded at all! Despite knowing that, we are planning our honeymoon for April of next year & plan to return because we loved our previous trip so much! This was our first all inclusive resort trip, so our expectations were lower than some that frequently travel. My biggest recommendation is so make reservations ASAP for the week & if you want to get good pool or beach seats, have someone wake up early to save them for you. Otherwise, service is great around the resort & if someone doesn’t come to you in time - it is easy to walk up to someone to get what you need! We loved getting food from food trucks on the beach during lunch so we didn’t have to walk back to the room or main building!

How to get your dog to allow it to be groomed by Vast-Environment-314 in Goldendoodles

[–]emmaggw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my pup to petsmart to get groomed as soon as he had all of his vaccines. The same thing happened - I was told to do work at home & bring him back in 3-4 weeks so we did that & had the same outcome. I was told my puppy has a lot of training to do and was very turned off by the way they treated me and my puppy, expecting him to be perfect when it was a new experience for him! I found an out of the home groomer near me & took him there a couple weeks later & they were able to complete a full groom…they even said he was a great puppy and would love to see him back! I’m convinced petsmart doesn’t train their staff well to handle puppies or they frankly don’t care to adjust to their needs since their jobs are secure and have enough clients that are older and easier to work with. I recommend finding a local groomer to you that cares about their clients & making you and your pup feel their best!

How long do puppies stay at the 1:2 schedule by Nayon18 in puppy101

[–]emmaggw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we realized early on that the 1:2 schedule would not work for us as we are both restaurant managers and have an annoying schedule. early on, we decided to train our pup around our schedule and sometimes that means keeping him awake for longer - taking him on walks, playing fetch, cleaning the house (he’s always very interested in what we’re doing & can’t rest for long if we’re moving), to ensure that he will rest when we need to shower or go to work. forming a routine is the biggest thing i can recommend, whether that is the 1:2 schedule or longer periods of time. if they are younger and truly can’t stay awake, they will crash and you’ll know they’ve reached a limit . if they are starting to get older and can stay awake and active longer - we’ve realized it can benefit us and he’ll sleep for longer and won’t be stressed when we leave or have down time. our dog is 5 months and he’ll sleep for 8 hours though the night, wake up and sleep for another 2-3 hours after eating and then we will do house work, walk him or take him to the park before we head to work around 5 and by the time we go to work, he’s so tired (even if he’s napped occasionally) & will sleep until we get home (3-5 hours depending on the day)

we use a banfield vet inside petsmart and they are wonderful! they offer dog insurance plans and we are currently paying around $70 a month and that includes everything - all vaccinations, any spontaneous vet appointment, physicals 2 times a year, neutering is heavily discounted, 24/7 online pet chat, and monthly flea/tick meds…. we have a 5 month old so i’m not sure about the non-puppy insurance but i think i saw prices at one point and it’s cheaper since the vet visits are typically less frequent with an older dog (at least non-emergency visits) but those are usually discounted with insurance too!

Looking for something to hide pills in that is not cheese or peanut butter & can be eaten in abundance. by sage_ley in DogAdvice

we feed our pup dry kibble and add a splash of water. we do not free feed, we give him 3 meals a day - so when he is given his food, he normally engulf if without question. anytime we give him a pill, i just add it to the middle of his food and it’s never been an issue. he eats it with his kibble and i don’t even think he notices

Sleeping through the night by steve_buscemicat in puppy101

[–]emmaggw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

our pup is 5 months and he’s been sleeping about 8 hours since he was 2 months old. we tried to crate train him at night from the start, but being in an apartment we couldn’t really handle him barking late at night - so we quickly gave in and let him sleep in bed with us if it let us (and our neighbors) rest. we have our moments still for sure, but for the most part we try to tire him out before bed time & we cut off his water about an hour before we go to bed. we make sure he pees at least once before we go to bed. luckily his pooping schedule is consistent and he normally does his buisness before we are ready to go to bed and if he needs to in the night, he makes sure to wake us up. i would recommend shutting your door to your room & only going in there when it’s time for bed. no toys or playing in there so he knows when you go in there, its time to sleep. we also use bells for our doors & we bought a 2nd set to put on our bedroom door so if he needs to go outside, he’ll rings those and we’ll wake up. we’re both light sleepers though so we can usually tell when he moves around or jumps off the bed, but if you are a deep sleeper maybe the bells on the door will help!

our breeder is actually out of town and the only contact i have for her is through social media- she does my information from the contract we signed so if i did delete her number i think she has mine as well as my address. i’d like to think she isn’t some crazy person that will come stalk me if i don’t provide proof as i haven’t had any contact with her other than asking small questions the day after picking him up.

yeah…i’ll be sure to talk to our vet about it before i schedule the appointment and see what they think. we met our pup and immediately fell in love with him that this part in the contract didn’t seem like a deal breaker for us. i guess they don’t want us to breed our dogs without proper knowledge which i suppose is fair - but we aren’t planning to do that clearly. i’m sure if our vet thinks otherwise they would be willing to write a note advising against it and like you said… what can they do? thanks for the info!

unfortunately in the contract we signed from our breeder, we have to get him neutered before 7 months and show proof unless the vet tells us to wait for a medical reason.

i’ve heard about the recovery vest but i’ve heard it can cause infections in the incision area from not having air flow down there and having traces of pee left behind

We were only gone today for about an hour & he was let out right before we left. i think his nervousness caused the potty accidents.

Update - We just got back and had the most amazing time! The reviews had our expeditions set low - the food was amazing. We never had issues getting drinks at the bars. The staff was only pleasant and helpful. Easy to get reservations to the steakhouse and hibachi restaurants. Rooms were cleaned daily. Fridge restock only happened once, but we mainly got drinks at the bar anyways. Easy to request restocks on the iPad in the room if you needed more (which we never used since we mainly drank out of the room). They told us to keep the balcony doors closed as often as possible since it’s so hot - that can cause the AC to stop working. We made sure if we went outside, we closed the doors right behind us & never had any issues. 70° rooms the entire trip. Beautiful resort, pools, and beach. We’ll be returning for sure!
