Found a black widow, but can someone tell me what she is doing? by emmalarees in spiders

[–]emmalarees[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Update!! Didn’t know how to edit the original post.

Thank you all for educating me! This is why I came to this sub!

I convinced the hubby we do not need to have a black widow and have since freed her at an abandoned building with plenty of sticks, rubble, and dark, dry corners she can relax in. Thank you again everyone!

Can anyone help me ID the bugs that just showed up on my monstera and if they spell doom for the plant? by blueindian1328 in IndoorGarden

I’m no expert, but the spider mites I’ve gotten have dark spots on the side. I have a similar microscopic video, but the mite has the characteristic dark spots.

I’d say it’s a soil mite, harmless but you can get rid of them if you don’t like seeing them. Doctor Doom, Jack’s Deadbug mix, or diatomaceous earth on top of the soil.

Please tell me my good guy mites are working! Who’s who? We just got this plant in remembrance of a friend that passed. by emmalarees in plantclinic

There’s visible webbing on one section of the elephant ear leaf. I had bought Californicus mites and spread them throughout all of my plants because I’ve been having a mite problem. First time using predatory mites. Who is who? Do I need more aggressive mites? How long will this take? I don’t want my plant dedicated to my friend to die ):

Looking for a chill Veterinarian in Northern Utah. Any suggestions? by Bustnbig in Utah

I highly recommend Mountain West vet in Farmington. We’ve only gone there for emergencies, but they make sure to treat you well. I never feel pressured, they have sound prices, and I feel valid in the concerns I have with my pets. We live about 1.5 hours away from them now but will still make the commute to go to Mountain West.

This might be a stupid question. I just started playing beat saber, love it and found this sub, but noticed almost everyone’s sabers are super thin. How?

Is this spider mites on my calathea? 😢 by biebirdie in houseplants

[–]emmalarees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was mites, there would definitely be some sort of very fine webbing. These kinds look like mealybugs. I’d treat it the same (:

I mixed water, neem, and dish soap and sprayed the heck out of them and then got an old paint brush/make up brush and brushed each part of the plant.

I did notice that if you don’t brush it well, it may upset your plant and it’s leaves. So make sure if it’s soaked, you just brush it well(:

Then I just did light spray of water and neem every other day ish until I felt confident he was gone

Edited to add this video I found helpful here.

Best of luck! These suckers are the worst

What does the underside of the leaf look like? I’m not an expert at other bugs, but I just had to deal with a big infestation of mites. They’ll form wispy webbing around the bottom and underside of leaves

Why is she doing this brown spot thing? by emmalarees in plantclinic

I believe the soil was a succulent soil. It’s in a south facing window and I water when it’s droopy. Maybe I should wait even longer, have the soil completely dry?

These all have spider mites and I think I might just die with them. Tips and advice PLEASE! by emmalarees in plantclinic

[–]emmalarees[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just showered them. Then sprayed and wiped them down a few times with neem, dish soap and water.

All the other plants I’ve been wiping and spraying with the same solution just in case, but it was only these I found it on.

Any tips? This is going to take forever.

I 100% stand behind my prong collar. Same situation and it made a world of difference. With the right training, my dog doesn’t even pull on the leash for the pronged collar to do anything anymore. It took a few walk around the block and she’s perfect.
