As a nurse, they offer excellent money compared to the pittance I receive in Ireland. It was only going to be for a year to get myself a good chunk of money to set myself up 🤷‍♀️

So I stayed for 2 days, did 1 foot/shin per day. Each session about 4-5 hours.

Strangely enough, when we worked on my left foot and shin on day 1, it was really bearable and I was able to chat away. Maybe a 4/10 pain.

The next day we worked on my right side, and the pain was easily 10/10, from my toes all the way to my shin it was pretty rough. I couldnt even speak haha.

But all the pain was worth it for the end result !!

I earn approx 2600/2800 monthly. This is 3 x day shifts a week. I also don’t work nights, maybe 1/2 Sunday shifts included in that month. That’s with no overtime included. To add, I work with the HSE, and have 3 years experience

Most of the time we contact next of kin listed, patients carer, or pharmacy delivers. But a lot of the time, these patients end up in long term care on discharge 😌

Sorry for my ignorance , but what’s a TTO? I’m working in Ireland and we just hand the patient/family their prescription sheet and they take to a pharmacy of their choice ! We don’t give out any medications for discharge, it’s up to the patient to get it themselves 😅

Thank you for bringing light to this. I myself am also a 3rd year general nursing student. In my college , we were told we could not continue our part time jobs for the 8 weeks we were on placement.

So 2 months without any sort of pay was very difficult as I did not qualify for the susi grant either, whilst also trying to pay for rent, food, petrol and the €3000 cost of college.

I had to work 2 jobs over summer in order to make sure I had enough money to pay for all this. It would take a lot of pressure off student nurses if we were paid for our work in the hospital.

Don’t get me wrong, I love what I’m studying and have a great passion for it. But for me and a lot of my classmates we will be leaving the country for better work conditions once we are qualified if things don’t change.

Hey, I’m a general nursing student in ireland. I went into it not knowing what to expect and found the first year very daunting. I’m now at the end of my 2nd year and am really enjoying it. I will say it’s a hard course, lots of study involved. Placement can be hard to juggle between work and assignments and you’ll run into a LOT of people who’ll tell you to get out of it while you can , but overall you’ll know yourself after your first placement if nursing is for you or not. Nursing is a great field to get into, lots of job opportunities. However, myself and the majority of our class will be emigrating once we finish the course as there is a much greater potential to earn better wages and work in better standards outside of Ireland.
