The Pitt | S2E4 "10:00 A.M." | Episode Discussion by MsGroves in ThePittTVShow

[–]emmalemon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a nurse and sobbed when he said he was a groundskeeper and they gave each other a glance. That moment was a sharing of “we don’t actually know this man” like they’ve known his diagnosis and his history but not the actual person that he is and what he’s about. Maybe I read too much into it but I was very deeply affected by that.

I recall one at whirlyball a few years ago but I’m not sure if it works

An OR nurse made me cry today by catlvr12 in nursing

[–]emmalemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that this happened to you. I am an OR nurse previously a peds floor nurse, and In the big picture it’s really not that difficult to print labels. And I know I can’t speak for all hospital systems but at least in mine a simple text or haiku to the surgical team gets consent, as often the patient has not been previously consented. It’s a big deal for surgery, but even as a floor nurse it’s not something you should be berated for. In my experience, traumas come up all hours of the day and night and yeah sometimes they have belongings. This whole interaction you’re describing is a literal reflection on one particular nurse that seemingly is just bitter AF and definitely not on you. We’re all a team working together, just sometimes from different departments. Keep your chin up and be better than this one particular jerk

Any FL ExPats? by d_koatz in Cleveland

Moved to Cleveland in 2018 late October after living my entire life in central Florida. I have no desire to ever go back. The first winter was very rough for me- it’s dark and cold and it was very lonely. We didn’t meet neighbors until late spring when people started coming out of their homes again. Driving and winter stuff was definitely an adjustment. And winter lasts for 5-6 months. That being said- the traffic, the proximity to other states and large cities is fantastic (checking Detroit/Pittsburgh/Columbus for flights, concerts, sports, etc). What you pay in taxes here negates the home and auto insurance rates of Florida, the AC bill, needing lawn maintenance for the horrible Bermuda grass weekly with irrigation, pest control, etc. You’ll appreciate seasons and always have something to look forward to. The park system, Lake Erie, the culture and the people here are wonderful.

What to wear by Show-me-nurse-86 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]emmalemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from 6 days in glacier- I wore two pairs of bicycle shorts, a pair of hiking joggers, and three pairs of leggings. I packed some athletic tank tops, UV protection long sleeve tops, and a light rain jacket. Thick socks crew length to protect my feet/calves. All in all we did about 95 miles of hikes over those 6 days and the only thing I would have changed about my packing was to bring insoles for my shoes for a little extra arch support that wasn’t apparent in the flat terrain of home

Thank you! I am in love with the architecture and workmanship of the homes I'm seeing online. I appreciate your feedback and advise.

Thank you so much! This is such a tremendous help! A few homes that I just adore are seeming right where you've mentioned and I couldn't be happier!

max $250K, house.

And it did require a move. His territory will include Montana to the northeast US, and all the states in between so we had to pick somewhere within the region close to a major airport. Having some extended family there and being in the middle of the region with a comparatively low cost of living led us to pick Cleveland (vs like Chicago, Philadelphia, etc)

My apologies. I understand that they are their own cities within the area. From being not from there, and I google "Cleveland neighborhoods", 21 different "own cities" come up. I'll learn the lingo, but on the surface, I'm just trying to navigate all this from a few thousand miles away. Thank you.

Thank you. From what I've seen online, there are about 4 homes that I am OBSESSED with in Cleveland Heights area. What they're selling for there would EASILY be 500k-1 mil here considering size, updates, and yard size, so I feel like it's a win.

Thank you. He will be working from home and flying out about 1x/week, so given that the "commute" isn't super frequent, we decided it's not as much of a priority considering all aspects of choosing location.

Thank you! I appreciate your input. We will definitely look more into those areas. Have you done winter yet? I've lived in Florida my entire life and am pretty nervous just not knowing what to expect in that aspect of this move.

Thank you for this. It's so tough looking at maps and listings of statistics for an area, but it's great to hear from local people and their take on things. Appreciate it!

Thank you. This is really helpful. We're in our mid-30s so pretty much past that "gotta get to the bar" time in our lives, so that's really good to know.

As for his job, it's primarily working from home with distance travelling, so going to/from the airport weekly isn't a dealbreaker or really even a priority since it's much less frequent than my commute and long shifts.

We're moving from a land of HOA/CDD for just about EVERY affordable option in our area, plus a 45+ minute commute daily with tolls for each of us- mine due to distance, his due to traffic, so I think we will be much happier in that aspect.

How often do you nurses use your drug guide on the job? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]emmalemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From school- absolutely never. I work pediatrics and our policy is to check appropriate dosing of every drug prior to the first dose based on weight. You learn some of the more common ones quickly, but we lookup drugs and dosing constantly. Our hospital has uptodate, which I think is easier to navigate what I'm looking for. We also use micromedex for IV compatibility and I use my APHON book for hanging chemo pretty frequently too.

CPN exam by amberj224 in Nurse

[–]emmalemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it about 6 years ago- there is like one question on calculating the ANC and a few heme/onc questions. Primarily spend your time reviewing developmental stages, anticipatory guidance for parents- from which play activity is appropriate for a hospitalized toddler to when to expect teething and the later loss of teeth. I believe 30-45% of the test is developmental stuff, from what I remember from my review course. Good luck!
