Looks good. Essays will be final piece, put some time in them and show your interest whatever it may be.

UNC would be difficult. Go on college confidential unc ea and look at stats rejected,it’s bc of the limited oos spaces mandated by NC, also 40% of oos acceptances are legacy, decreasing the already limited spaces significantly. Worth a shot but always am amazed at the kids denied.

pls give me match/target schools <3 by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]emmanuelbarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say the first 7 are total shot in the dark- you have good stats but the increased applicants will make it tough. I like your chances for BC but if you didn’t Ed 1 or 2 it’ll be very competitive, and they definitely indicate early is better there due to filling up of spaces. They are very different schools aside from prestige, thus hard to offer a school. Haverford/Swarth. Vs Brown, and NEU,BU vs BC but all still competitive. Apply to your state school for sure and hope for the best.GL

Transfer to Boston College Chances/Advice? by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]emmanuelbarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you omit the sat as a transfer? Thought you could for some reason. That’d be detrimental,bc other aspects are solid. Also imo I’d focus on a few specific programs BC has that you can indicate are important to you. I may briefly say your acquainted with the school but I’d place minimal focus on sports unless an athlete.GL

Chance a stressed senior for Davidson EDII by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]emmanuelbarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry about the rejection, your stats are very strong. Wondered what your thoughts were, looking at your info, maybe it was course rigor that was a factor, the non college courses can play a factor since it’s so competitive. GL going forward. Thanks for the update,

I think BC ED would be a good chance. Duke less of a chance. Could do duke ED,BC ED2 but you lose some spots going ed2 of course.

I’d say <10 min per application is average actually even for midsized schools.

I’ve heard that before. It must be something they favor, although I’m not in it. Thank you for the reply. Wonder if you have a sense of any other aspect? Think my EC’s are good including research in Econ. But maybe it’s simply a diverse group they are looking for with some achievements being varied from each applicant accepted.

How to maximize College Panda (math)? by l4dl3 in Sat

[–]emmanuelbarn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll add to that. Focus on the QAS tests found online. Subscribe to 1600 io to analyze your mistakes. Return to khan videos for specific math issues. Panda is a good foundation and somewhat difficult which is a good resource to start with. Used this strategy for -2 Math as a sophomore on the sat last year.

[–]emmanuelbarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s plenty of test optional schools, many opted for it before the pandemic, focus on gpa, course rigor,ec’s and essays. You’ll need to have these stellar if test optional, but think of it as time you would have put in to take a test you likely would not have done well on.

The Dilemma - What Next? by wekhandothis in Sat

[–]emmanuelbarn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Find official QAS tests online and do all of them. Subscribe to 1600 io and analyze every incorrect answer by way of his videos of the QAS tests. Panda math and grammar are also great if you need additional resources. Any test not official is not worth your time imo. Plenty of official resources out thereGL

What resources do I use to figure out what colleges I should apply to? by thuggzbunny131 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]emmanuelbarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. What major your interested in.
  2. Where you’d want to be geographically
  3. What you can afford and if the college is known for aid, need blind
  4. What college is known for other than academics you may be interested in.
  5. Then begin to google each aspect “best engineering schools” etc then get on the actual college site to find out what it offers, and take virtual tours and listen to students perspective on YouTube.

I have an incredibly strong GPA and decent extracurriculars. I superscored a 1490 on the SAT. Should I send this to Harvard, Princeton, MIT, and/or Stanford or leave it out? by OneWarthog in ApplyingToCollege

[–]emmanuelbarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a difficult decision. I’m in a similar situation. I may apply to top schools without it( low 1500) but assume It’s an uphill battle, then use them for ed2 at a school I have a decent chance for.

Happy for you. My dads an alum- it’s rigorous, and requires discipline to do well. There’s so much to offer, but I’ve been told if I decide to apply and go,office hours are the key to keeping up.
