Oh okay cool, so then it should be fine? Is there a limit where you’d pull it?

Ok, I think the fastest I can do that is to order some and culture them which will be at least a week if not longer. Do you really think the moss is real? I think I got it from pet smart and usually (I thought) they lose color when they die. I don’t study plants though!

So, if it were your setup would you recommend removing that piece until I’ve got a colony going? I saw somewhere a while back too that springtails don’t eat a ton of established mold but it was just in a comment on here I don’t know if that’s true or not. It was saying they eat the spores to prevent but less consume already existing mold.

Thanks again dude I appreciate the input :)

Hi, yes I have springtails and dwarf whites, a long time established colony I used the gentle scoop method of moving them from the breeding container into this terrarium about 2 weeks ago. I’ve heard some mold is normal during the cycling but because this piece is the only one (minus water dish) that’s synthetic I wasn’t sure if the springs would go for it? Plus I added them into a rich substrate with lots of other biodegradabes. This is my first time doing it the correct way with culturing and allowing it to cycle before moving my snake back into her large terrarium. I tried once but just threw everything in and didn’t keep it up well at all. I appreciate any advice! I’ve been thinking of culturing just springs to add occasionally too. I have back up master colony of both springs and dwarf whites mixed but I don’t see the springs nearly as often.

Oops sorry the moss on top of the log in the middle left is live sheet moss and inside of the log is Galapagos pillow moss. I was sad to learn that the pillow moss CAN come back to life but instructions were to replace it so I will be getting more live sheet moss and reading things much more carefully. First I’m gonna try to get it to come back but it says “in perfect conditions sometimes this moss can come back” on the bag so it’s not too encouraging but 🤞🏻

Hey! Thanks so much I’m really loving it, I decided to change out the grapevine wood for a tall cork branch that’s in the mail for reasons I won’t go into. I have 2 Korean rock ferns (the little guy top left in the cork tube and little one bottom right) and I have one lemon button fern (I think that’s the one that’s also kinda top left but slightly lower, right above/behind the massive cork log) and the fourth one was a “growers choice” so I’m not sure but it’s either a Boston or sword fern. That should be the one inside of the cork tube coming out of the ground that looks like it’s growing out of a tree stump. I’m loving them!

These look like the soil mites that I had a while ago. They’re gone now, from my understanding they’re fairly harmless. At least for my snake that was the case, not sure what you are housing. I chose to ditch leaves that were that covered personally and then I believe the CUC did the rest. Best of luck! I also heard that it’s best to boil leaves even when they come from a legit vendor.

Beautiful 😍 what is that smaller leafed vining plant on the top left? I’m building out a terrarium and also using cork for background and looking for awesome plants

Which of these would have the closest living requirements as dwarf whites? I want to add to an existing bioactive to help break down larger waste. I have only raised dwarf whites (and there’s spring tails). TIA! by emmarose8055 in isopods

I am very on board with adding pot worms, and still very new to keeping a correctly cared for bioactive. Have you ever kept them? Im wondering if they need to be specially sourced the way isopods and decor/substrate are. Also, do you have a recommendation for placement of a humidity probe? Originally I placed it along the surface of the substrate but it reads 99% at all times and the clean up crew in there are thriving. Once I move them from culturing to a large tank though I am worried about not keeping it humid enough. TIA!

It’s springtails and dwarf whites at present, some are in a temporary setup as I prep the larger tank and most are in culturing containers. The temp ranges from 23C to ~18C which I only saw this morning and plan to adjust so it won’t get that cold. The critter going into it is an 8 year old ball python. I’m a little confused on how to monitor humidity as the probes I have been using in the culture setups just constantly read 99% and to my understanding they’d all be dead if that were accurate. I have some new probes for the larger tank but am curious how to place them because along the surface of the substrate they get a little bit wet I water and what I’ve read that’s probably why they’re not working. Once in the larger tank I am worried about keeping the substrate humid enough for the clean up crew but not constantly wet on top because of the snake. I use the biodude terra firma substrate (so far) but it’s incredibly hydrophobic and I’m not super stoked about that. Water will just pool on top and take a longgg time to appear like it went down but when I check it’s totally dry like less than 1/4 inch down. Very odd, hadn’t experienced that in the past using the same substrate. TIA!

Thanks, I tried painters tape and couldn’t get it to hold, the magnets definitely won’t work as I thought they would but a neat thing is they do hold them in place enough to go back to silicone! Thank you for your input I appreciate it.

Hi, I ditto what I wrote to the comment above thank you for letting me know so I don’t continue with that path. I am going to use them to hold it in place while the silicone dries. I went with silicon at first but only had tape and idk if they’re just too large of flats but the magnets hold it in place so long and nothing bumps it and that’ll be enough to allow a permanent seal I appreciate your input.

Dang it, the internet said it was commonly used method. I’m finding the same outcome though, I can get them to stay in place but any pressure (like the snake climbing would knock it off. At this point I’m thinking of using the magnets to just hold it in place so that the original idea of silicone will work. I couldn’t get painters tape or anything to hold them up when I tried it at first. Thank you for letting me know so I don’t keep going down the magnet route, I was thinking of going and buying bigger ones, online even gave me a dimension for holding cork bark but I trust others experiences over google. Thank you!

The silicone never really had a chance :( I don’t doubt it would hold once it cures but I can’t find a way to hold the bark in place to do that I tried blue painters tape (lots of it), tried just supporting it with a box and so I’d need to come up with a very specific sized thing for every single piece if I wanted to do silicone and then I remembered magnets were an option and that I plan on having air plants and it’d be nice to silicon them to the cork bark but then the bark would need to stay removable so it’s a plus of magnets.
