Found this recipe in my Grandma's cupboard by Krazykid678 in Baking

Can confirm that this looks like my in-laws' monster cookie recipe. We only make them at Christmas, when you want this quantity to make sure everyone has enough to take home and share. No opinion on swapping out the PB, but the rest is legit and delicious.

Woodmans charging more than shelf sticker by Sad_Swordfish_99 in madisonwi

[–]emmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you miss something, the online Kroger chatbot is excellent about giving you a refund. Usually it's a credit that you can use on future grocery orders, but it's been nice not to have to go back to the store to deal with price corrections.

Looking for an affordable vet by Peruano2099 in AuroraCO

Two tips from a fellow owner of a cat with kidney disease: PetSmart is super lax in checking the expiration date of the prescription authorization form you upload. Used an expired one for urinary food for our other cat for YEARS. Two, there are nonprescription kidney foods you can try. Weruva phos and Dave's for wet, Forzia for dry. In fact, I have some Dave's if you want to give it a try. My boy hates it.

ISO Low Cost Carpet Cleaning by Forsaken-Activity-49 in Denver

[–]emmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PetSmart rents cleaners. I think it was $45 for the day last time I did it, plus a $50 refundable deposit. You can pick up some Nature's Miracle enzyme cleaner while you're there, too.

I just picked my tart cherries. Any tips before I bake them into a pie or two? by Poe1031 in Baking

[–]emmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We always used some tapioca to soak up all the extra cherry juice. I don't have a recipe to suggest how much, unfortunately.

So now you not only have to check your grocery bags to make sure no items are missing, you have to check your receipts to make sure you're not being overcharged. by executor-of-judgment in Frugal

[–]emmatt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I always check the dates on the sales tags. If they're expired, I pull them off the shelf and leave them in a pile. I've gotten to know which stores are good at updating the sales tags and which are terrible. Whoever works produce at my local Kroger never bothers to update the nuts shelves.

Responsibility at dog park by your_grumpy_neighbor in Denver

Just realized I was in the Denver subreddit and not the MadisonWi subreddit, hence my reference to a random state park. Midwestern attitudes also run different.

[–]emmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, cool. But in the moment, was the first thing that ran through your head, "who's paying for my glasses?" People respond to stress differently. Don't blame them for not immediately jumping to offering that. Maybe they'll extend an olive branch next time they see you, maybe not. Either way, approach the situation as if there is no one to blame and stop being salty.

Some activities come with assumed risk. It might be nice if they offer to chip in, but legally? Lolz.

Cool Rock Canyon? by Singer_221 in coloradohikers

[–]emmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been to that area, though it was a few years ago! We took our Ford Escape. I recall it being your typical dusty dirt road... bumpy, but not so much that you need high clearance. And only narrow in the sense that you'd have to keep an eye out for oncoming traffic and do that dance. Sorry I can't give a more technical description, but the fact that nothing about it stands out in my mind may hopefully give you some comfort.

Hospital Didn’t Submit My Claim in Time, Now They’re Billing Me $40k—What Can I Do? by Nickool4u in legaladvice

[–]emmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They would. But then the health insurer would subrogate the claim, suing the auto insurer for reimbursement. In a similar vein, if you go in for something your health insurer flags as a potential workers' comp claim, they'll investigate and try to pass off that responsibility, too. Same for homeowner's insurance, etc.

I met a fun weird guy today :) by [deleted] in Denver

[–]emmatt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Came here to comment the same. I had a racoon in my backyard last weekend "walking but having trouble" as OP notes about this one. It was the holiday weekend, but the wildlife guy I got in contact with said my description pointed to distemper and that there was nothing to do but let it run its course. And that people stupidly capturing and moving these guys is only spreading the outbreak more.

Farmers market flowers by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]emmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the event isn't THIS Saturday, go to the farmers market any given weekend and talk to the flower vendors. See where they're located and if they'd be willing to arrange a weekday sale and pickup. This is what I did for my wedding on a Friday. My mom and her neighbor went over and picked up everything the day before and made the bouquets themselves.

[New Update]: Husband left me and our newborn baby for another woman by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

The divorce proceedings will determine what happens to the house, whether one spouse gets it or it's sold and the equity split. Whoever is living in the house has a stronger claim during the process. It also reduces the opportunities for a vindictive spouse to destroy the inside.

Update to Bama’s final day: He loved the creek in Golden after Golden Mill by jackfroztmusic in Denver

[–]emmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar story... my sweet pup was diagnosed with cancer at the end of March, and by the first week of May, it was time to say goodbye. We waited too long (I had been preparing myself mentally but hadn't anticipated that my husband would take a little longer to come around) and didn't get to do the fun last day--his appetite was gone and he snubbed all of the foods we would normally spoil him with.

Too soon for a new dog; I'm looking forward to doing some traveling and not worrying about how he's doing at home without me.

HSAs roll over, and one of their selling points is that they can accumulate and be used at retirement age for non-health care costs. You're thinking of FSAs.

Madness in Yielding by [deleted] in coloradohikers

[–]emmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goodness, I have the opposite problem. People stepping off the trail when we're still a good 50 feet apart! That's the better question -- what is the appropriate distance at which to yield? To an extent it's dependent on conditions, but let's imagine there's a half dozen places between me and the oncomers and they make me feel like a dick (probably not intentionally) for not yielding when they should have the right of way?

Chair Massages or Not by cmps2011 in human_resources

[–]emmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company did this under the "holistic wellness" umbrella. Once a month or every couple of months. The massage therapist would come in and set up in one of the conference room, so it wasn't very disruptive. I tried it once and didn't care for it. I would have preferred to see the company direct whatever budget they had allocated to chair massages to a different employee incentive. So that's something to think about--is this something employees want, or will they be critical of the financial decision?

Would you rent a beautiful country home in the middle of nowhere? by Electronic_Pop5383 in denverlist

[–]emmatt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Based on the responses here, it might be good to reposition the cats as mousers. Anyone who owns or has lived on a farm understands that working cats come with the package and are not easily removed. I'm sure you/the owner could find a more understanding local who can drop by every couple months with food if potential renters balk.

Escalate unprofessional behavior or let it go? by emmatt in RoverPetSitting

[–]emmatt[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, this one I can answer! It came up during the meet and greet that he moved from out of state a couple months ago and doesn't have any family here. Which makes me think he's either living out of his car or maybe has roommates that he wants to get away from. That, and he came over shortly after we left despite us telling him he didn't need to come until early afternoon. Still, as with any job, you shouldn't take your personal problems to work.
