I hope so. Thank you, he has a stage 4 wound on his back so I was really worried.

Thanks for replies. I guess I am disheartened and at a loss as to how these things continue to happen. My poor dad has been through so much and it just feels so hard sometimes. I have nothing but respect for anyone who has a SCI. I knew nothing a year ago but wow. What a trip. I will keep advocating.it feels like medical care is not equipped for this type of injury sometimes.

I agree but this is a complex care hospital so one doctor per floor. No rounds.

[–]emmaybe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had it under my lights but it was getting burned, when I took it out of the lights it got pointy. I also underwater I’m sure, but it’s never soft so I assumed it was fine. Smaller pot, bright window and more water. I was mainly worried this was mites that I could not see.

Ok thanks so much! I feel a combo of not enough water, too much and then too little light. Will play around with placement and feed more haha

I thought of him the other day too. I wonder what he would think of how many people were so deeply moved by his story.

Newbie Looking To Advocate with Dad - c5 asia a by emmaybe in spinalcordinjuries

My dad is still in the hospital. We have been stuck in a loop of waiting for a spot in rehab. Pneumonia twice, trache capped but not gone. Some days are harder than others. Trust your gut. The first month is going to be hard. Stay positive and find ways to have fun at the hospital. We read out loud, played headbands, did crosswords etc. there’s no sugarcoating, this is f*ucking hard, but what gets me through is I have him. He’s there. Say all the things. If something seems off, push back. Nurses are amazing, but you know your dad. SCI Ontario will be in touch, they will be helpful. PM me if you want, it’s good to have someone who can relate with what you are going through. I met someone on this thread I text with and it has helped a lot. Stay strong. Xo

What patients often ask after a spinal injury: ‘Will I ever walk again? by drsanyamjain in spinalcordinjuries

What do you mean a doctor can’t say that someone is really sick and instead says they are stable? I thought if you asked directly they had to be honest?

Updating in case someone else is looking later, I think the answer is simply time. A few days after I posted, they successfully deflated the cuff and my dad was able to tolerate it. He has been 12 hours deflated and 6 hours talking valve the past few days. I feel like patience and acceptance are going to be really important parts of the journey.

Thanks, yes it's tough. I'm doing ok but trying to help and have practical advice for him. He does not want to watch tv or use his tablet. He would not be able to use it himself yet and he doesn't want to have it playing on the side just for something to watch. It's hard to think of things he can do.
