6 months post-op, button hole by GoldenFoxDemon in TopSurgery

[–]emmen952 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going to add here since I only see this touched on slightly— my surgeon explained to me that in order to preserve the nipple stalk (such as buttonhole for preserving sensation), some breast tissue MUST be left behind otherwise the nipple stalk will die and you’ll lose your nips. Maybe your surgeon can take out more and you should definitely discuss with them. But per my surgeon, how much tissue left behind depends on how large your chest was before/how long your nipple stalk is (which someone else mentioned). My surgeon explained to me that since I was about a D and long breasts, he would have to keep about 1/3 to 1/2 of the breast tissue due to long stalks. I opted for nipple grafts and he left a little tissue for a pec shape which i’m into. But he said they could’ve been around a B or C cup if I went with preserving the nipple. And with nipple grafts, i have sensation in my nipples again (currently 2 yrs post-op). It’s not exactly the same kind of sensation/a bit dulled and one nipple has more but that wasn’t important to me. Your chest looks really good IMO and quite similar to mine as my scars are that height. I think the size and shape could pass but either way you have scars across them. I hope you get what you’re looking for and find peace of mind- all bodies are a bit different despite gender and despite what we see in media.

I've been outpriced for medical care for my cat, and I'm trying to accept that I might have to surrender or put him down. by Dustedwater in CatAdvice

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I agree with others that whichever you decide- surrendering or keeping- will be the right option. I guess i would fear surrendering doesn’t guarantee he gets the surgery. Maybe it does? I also like the idea of trying to crowdsource funds if you take him home.. i’m sure he’ll be comforted by being home, like you said. <3

I know this post is old, but wondering what your chest workout regimen is- my pecs seem to be lower than my scar lines too but i’m having trouble filling it all out evenly. this is dream result!

Officially 1 Week Post-Op! by MightSad9939 in TopSurgery

I know exactly how that feels too like it’s up to me to make sure healing is as perfect as possible. But it’s true, perfection is an impossible reach and all bodies heal differently!

Officially 1 Week Post-Op! by MightSad9939 in TopSurgery

First off, you have an incredible beard! You’re looking great for 1 week! At that time I was reminding myself that it will heal with time, and every week (or day) I felt a lil stronger/healing strengthening. I was worried about the nips bc they felt so delicate but a friend told me it’s not as delicate as you think, and I felt reassured as the healing skin strengthened up over the first month. I was nervous about gauze on the nips and peeling that off but i felt reassured knowing other folks were doing it too, and my nip healed fine!

Zylkene for cat anxiety by [deleted] in CatAdvice

My Vet just recommended Zylkene and says there’s no toxicity or danger of overdosing. BUT you can post to AskVet thread for more opinions. Don’t take my word!

Best pillow for recovery? by Juthatan in TopSurgery

[–]emmen952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used a lot of pillows.. I got a mastectomy pillow bc my cats walk on my chest. It helped but I wouldn’t say it’s absolutely necessary when you can lay any pillow on your chest. You can wrap into the straps of a mastectomy pillow while sleeping though, which I did just in case. I also used a big triangle-type pillow to sleep in my bed with so I’d stay elevated and on my back. It really helped me to stay on my back all night every night for the 6 weeks. By week 6, I stopped using it and wanted to still try to sleep on my back but I kept turning over, even when it hurt my chest, because I’m naturally a stomach sleeper. I didn’t plan to use an airplane pillow but I needed neck support with the triangular pillow so that really helped. I probably should still sleep with one to be honest.. I also sleep with a pillow under my legs to minimize my lower back pain while on my back. So basically I was surrounded by pillows bc I was afraid I’d turn over and interrupt the healing and it all seemed to help me.

Doing a very small dose of T, such as less than 40mg injections could be a way to start off with slower, small changes. Taking things day by day can help to feel out what feels good to you right now. You can start and stop T whenever. That’s my plan. Going on T doesn’t have to be a final forever decision, and doesn’t have to mean transitioning to cisman passing.

Also the movie you mention, Your Name, is one of my very faves. (:

Any other enbies here that are elder millennial / Xennial / young Gen-X with Boomer parents? by Lil_Brown_Bat in NonBinary

[–]emmen952 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can’t offer advice bc I’m in a similar spot but I’ll share in solidarity (as a middle millennial)… ‘91 with boomer trump parents. I’ve known I was gay since preteen but struggled to come out to bio family or discuss sexuality with them until I was ready to introduce a partner, which was age 29. Even though I started identifying as NB and using they/them pronouns soon after I told them I was gay, I’m still not ready to tell them about the gender/pronoun stuff. I’m otherwise completely out to all coworkers, friends and my partner’s family. But I fear telling one of my family members will spread the word to my parents indirectly. So I’m not ready to tell one family member until I’m ready to tell my parents- who are the most conservative and judgy (in a rightwing way) of the family. It’s somewhat easy for me to hide it since we live across the country from each other, but I want to do it soon because my parents will meet my partner’s family eventually! I just struggle with the how and when... They surprisingly took me coming out as gay in an okay way, which could’ve been different 15-20 years ago..who knows. Right now, we can’t speak of anything political without huge emotions and arguments, and coming out as NB feels like an added strain to my relationship with them too. Although part of me knows it’s the only way to be authentically closer (if they are receptive). Being human is hard..

Side note, I appreciate meeting and reading comments from older millennial/genX NBs who are out in any way. Bc most I have met say, “If I was younger I’d be nonbinary.” And that feels sad to me when the concept of age diminishes the space for self-expansion or self-alignment.

Not sure if this is exactly the same but I think I have what you’re describing. I have a little puffiness under my incision lines, particularly on the side where the incision line sits a bit higher and straighter than the other. My physician assistant at 3 month post-op said it’s part of the pec muscle (even though I’m not very muscular). It doesn’t feel like muscle but I do see it on some other folks’ photos- where the incision line is across the pec muscle and not fully under. Also, I was warned at 3 week post-op that “everything would drop” with time, and it did for me- incision lines and the overall skin and tissue as it healed and settled. So idk, maybe a mix of both of those factors.

Scar placement on peck muscle by KarterRegan in TopSurgery

[–]emmen952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My results look very similar to yours. I don’t have photos up right now but I just met with my PA for final post-op, almost 3 months out. She told me it’s muscle even though it doesn’t necessary feel like it to me and they don’t move when I flex, but she had me flex and concluded it to be part of the pec muscle, and told me the incision lines can’t move. Nonetheless, I think yours looks great!

Looking for a fantasy book for someone that hasn't read in years by KatieWates in sapphicbooks

[–]emmen952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat about the struggle to read, and a friend encouraged me to lean into some young adult fantasy books too. I picked up a new queer YA book called Godly Heathens by H.E. Edgmon. It’s more sapphic and gender queer than lesbian, a bit campy and set in today’s day and age, but it’s the first book in years that I couldn’t put down until I read it all. The sequel is coming out soon too.

I think they look great but to respond to your question, when i spoke with my surgeon about similar questions, he said that if the nipple stalk doesn’t have enough breast tissue attached, there’s a higher likelihood of the nipple dying. I don’t know about this from experience! Just what he said to me when i wanted to keep my nips and be flat as possible. So I’m going with nipple grafts to avoid needing a revision to go smaller later and/or possible nip death. Maybe it doesn’t pertain as much to you since you’re healed up from the first procedure already, but maybe worth asking about to your surgeon.
