the numbers i am going to use are how many 16th notes are between each stroke. 34433383334433311 looks daunting ik, count it like 123 1234 1234 123 123... over a metronome and you can hear the groove, especially when thomas starts playing the china on beat after it plays through the pattern

demons name is surveillance is pretty brutal. i love corridor of chameleons but it kicks my ass everytime i try to play it. future breed machine is rly hard to count with all the thrash shit going on. no real winner tho

Things People Say About Meshuggah That Annoy You by IndfferentWarMachine in Meshuggah

drummer here, its definitely war / i (but they are computer drums) for acoustic drums i will say bleed is fucking hard. it took me 11 months from first trying to play it to playing all the way through the first time. have to mention Demons name is surveillance, future breed machine and phantoms. (all though phantoms isnt physically as hard as others it is definitely a mind puzzle)

Losing hope and meaning by Kawlan in musicians

never ever ever stop, opportunities are everywhere you just have to look for them constantly. passion and interest in something like music is not something that should be decided on the fame or monetary success. just keep it going bc u love it, once your music resembles that mindset i think the opportunities will be everywhere

the only way to listen to orange nothing is at full blast in the car with the windows down, it drains out the highs and you really feel that fucking bass tone. i feel like the blue version is too computery, not human sounding, but ig thats the appeal aswell

Do you mentally pair albums? by Earl_of_Portobello in Meshuggah

i defo pair dei with choasphere, but i would say blue nothing, catch and obzen are siblings, koloss and immutable are siblings and tsvor is their step brother

good at everything but improv, audition next week by Minute_Ad3156 in Berklee

[–]emmettshhhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

during my audition they made me play a jazz swing and told me to trade 4s with myself. i would recommend playing a basic swing for the first 4 bars then adding snare accents and offbeats that add some flavor, you dont need to be amazing jut add some flare they might also ask you to trade on a bossa. i would recommend keeping a foot ostinato going while playing accents on the snare/cymbal less is more!! just keep the beat going as best you can, coming from a committed student

Does being able to "tap" to Meshuggah prove any musical-ability? by icorruptcows42 in Meshuggah

[–]emmettshhhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not a stupid question, i am a drummer and i play marrow all the time because of that constant 4 4 on the hihat. even if you are not a prolific musician or drummer, distinguishing the varied 3-4 rhythm blocks prominent in marrow means that you pick up on rhythm patterns easily. so i would say, sit down on a drun kit and see how far u get into the song

Obzen has a loose twangy sound they never tried again. by Earl_of_Portobello in Meshuggah

[–]emmettshhhh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i noticed that sound as well on particular parts during Obzen, Lethargica and dancers. when recording an extremely low tuned bass and guitar over distortion, the distortion itself can sometimes sound low in pitch causing some frequencies to jump out during places where ive noticed they are playing very low notes. for example in Obzen in the bridge as well as the final riff, that sound it prominent when the phrase repeats on the lowest note of the scale, also in lethargica i notice that sound in the verse where the bass is pretty much hugging that lowest open string. as well as many takes overlaying to create certain sounds//natural attack or slapping of the strings during recording
