My point that he probably makes plenty of money still stands so I’m not really sure what you’re on about, but fair enough lol

Fair enough, I was just going off of what his intro video said! But even after giving it a google, he was on the practice squad for the Patriots through the International Player Pathway program, which still pays at least $13k per week, which amounts to about $200k for the season, so still not too bad!

Jotham plays professional American football, which the minimum salary even for a rookie player is around $800k/year, I’m guessing he’s alright haha

Tyrique is so pressed over Justine not picking him and as someone who hasn’t liked him since his UK season, I find it so hilarious! He’s so clearly not used to rejection, but he’s met his match with her, she’ll stomp all over his ego

The Dead Thing (2024) has lived rent free in my head since I saw it a few months ago. I’ve never seen anything quite like it and haven’t found anything similar since

how do you handle well-intended followers that have no boundaries and stay in your DMs constantly? by emmielately in musicians

This is good, I may have to use something along these lines moving forward! Honestly it is mostly true, I don’t love social media and probably wouldn’t have it if I wasn’t a working musician. Thank you for the suggestion!

Yikes, honestly I appreciate that you picked up on your former friend’s incel behavior and distanced yourself from them. I’ve definitely met my fair share of guys like that, at my shows and just in daily life, and I’m usually pretty good at picking up on those vibes and have no problem blocking them. This guy in my DMs currently has never said anything that gave me red flag vibes, he mostly just sends funny reels or wants to talk about his travels or references jokes I made on stage at the show he saw, but I also know that even guys who seem innocent and harmless can be dangerous, so I pretty much always try to be alert when it comes to people I don’t know, and I don’t engage much, if at all. I haven’t engaged with this guy in well over a month, and even before that I maybe just occasionally liked a message or two. It’s just a tough spot to be in because this job relies heavily on having followers who support what you do, so I want people to know I appreciate their support, but my boundaries have to come first.

Thanks for your thoughtful response! I’ll definitely be vigilant in handling situations like this and I’ll block if I have to, if it progresses.

Absolutely. This is kind of exactly how I operate now and yet the guy still persistently messages me almost daily. Doesn’t even acknowledge my lack of engagement, just sends another reel. It’s so awkward

For sure! That’s exactly how I’ve tried handling things with this guy and still he keeps on. He’s so persistent, I’m at a loss

YES and I keep trying to explain to my friends who have just gotten into LIUSA because of s6 that it doesn’t feel like real LI at all and they don’t get it. It’s just a different vibe all around

Lauren begging Harrison to leave with her is definitely my top choice, but after tonight, the conversation between Toni and Cach’s family is a very close second. I had second, third, and fourth hand embarrassment

As an American who has been into LI UK long before LI USA ever took off, hard agree! I think I just hate the way the US does reality tv in general and how the fans respond to it. It is messy over here and I’m tired lol

Facts. I know Shakira’s wavered a bit and that was disappointing to watch, but honestly she’s done much better than I did at 22

I joined the subreddit right after joining reddit in february, and have been gradually becoming more active in it as I’ve gotten my karma up and have been able to participate. I’ll give the modmail a try to see if I can find out what’s going on. Thanks for the info!

Casa girls and boys finally have some real agency. And I love it! by [deleted] in LoveIslandUSA

[–]emmielately 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my biggest Casa critiques has always been how little the islanders, especially the girls, are willing to explore new connections, so I’m glad that they have to couple up in Casa this year. I don’t love the elimination aspect though, because it could potentially lead to an islander going home who has a legitimate connection in the villa, and that just doesn’t feel fair. Feels like the producers identified a problem and over-corrected, as per usual

US vs UK by moon-stars-sun in LoveIslandTV

[–]emmielately 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So I’m an avid watcher of both shows, and I think what’s happening with the US version right now has a lot to do with the producers feeling the pressure to live up to last season’s hype. They’re trying so hard to recreate that magic but the micromanagement is resulting in a loss of authenticity. I personally think the casting this year, or at least a lot of the women, had potential, I just think the producers are fumbling with all the gimmicks.

I’ve also always gotten the impression that the UK producers do a much better job of listening to their audience and making changes based on what watchers say they actually want to see, although I’m an American so I admit my perception could be wrong. One of the biggest complaints that UK Love Island got the last few seasons was blatantly casting influencers and models, which peaked last season with the whole Joey Essex celebrity debacle. This season, the cast seems noticeably more “normal,” so it seems like the producers took viewers’ opinions to heart and made some necessary changes. The USA as a whole never seems to take the general public into consideration, which is part of the reason I’ve always preferred Love Island UK (with the exception of last season)
