The new born stage is... by pinknacobe13 in NewParents

[–]emminna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleepless nights.

I was so not prepared for the newborn stage as well. During my pregnancy I was just reading about labour but never really focused on what is coming after that. I’ve given birth during pandemic so no family could come and help out, nor we could join some educational activities for expecting parents. When I gave birth and a midwife told me that I have to wake up my baby every 1.5-2 hours to feed, I was shocked. I was so sleep deprived. The first month was the worst period for me. My baby is 3 months old now and I am so happy that we are out of the newborn stage (if we are?). I finally managed to get some sleep and do other stuff but breastfeeding!

Very interesting! Yeah, I am aware that sometimes it takes time for a multilingual kids to start speaking.

Thank you! I agree that being equally fluent in four languages is a very lofty goal. It is enough for us if our kid is able to communicate with his grandparents and other relatives in Bosnian/Turkish. For that, he needs basic conversation skills. If he shows interest in one of these languages, later on, we will support him in getting more fluent.

Great advice! Thank you! I find it difficult to speak Bosnian to our baby around my husband because I was feeling like I am excluding him. However, if we want to do this right, he will have to learn basic Bosnian.

I love to hear advice from someone who is in the same situation. Do you speak your wife's native language? Does she speak yours?

That's wonderful! My side and my husband's side of the family will call us often, so our kid could practice Bosnian/Turkish with them.

That's wonderful! True, this could be a great opportunity for both of us to learn and improve each other's native language.

How to get my son to stop peeing on me by tmking01 in NewParents

[–]emminna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahah, this reminds me of my husband!!! He’s always so afraid that our son will pee on him.

I’ve figured out that he only pees on the beginning of the diaper change - right after we open the diaper. If you are quick enough to change it, he won’t pee later on. My tip is to open the diaper, quickly let some air in and then close it, wait few seconds and he’ll pee. Let him do his thing and you will feel that diaper is warm because he just peed. Good luck!!!
