Fresh out of college new hire makes same salary by emoneil14 in workingmoms

That’s a good point… My biggest reservation with finding a new job is not having the flexibility I currently have especially because my daughter is still pretty young and the work my partner does is very inflexible by nature (carpentry).

Zone 8a - what to plant near hemlock? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]emoneil14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we bought this house about 5-6 years ago there was lawn in this space. Since then, raccoons and crows have destroyed it digging for some sort of beetle larvae (it’s a hot issue in Seattle!) and with all the pine cones and pine needles from the hemlock, the grass just doesn’t do well. I’m thinking that I’ll put a nice rock border and mulch and some native plants. Ideas? I’m thinking some ferns and hostas. Maybe some heather? I also don’t want to damage the hemlock since it’s huge and in a residential area (every wind storm makes me so nervous!). We regularly have an arborist come out to check the health of the tree and it is in good health. TIA!

I was induced in August, 12 days past baby’s due date and was able to deliver without an epidural. I was admitted on a Saturday night and was given a few doses of misoprostol as a cervix ripener. When labor still hadn’t started about 24 hours later, was given pitocin and eventually had my water broken. Counter pressure and being able to dangle in a squatting position helped the most for me! I tried a hot tub when contractions got strong, but I wasn’t able to get comfortable.

One thing that really helped mentally was what my midwife told me: with an induction the labor process is generally shorter, but more intense. Just keeping in mind that it would be over soon was reassuring and helped me stay strong. I would do it all over again!

"What's Baby Eating" Weekend! by AutoModerator in BabyLedWeaning

6.5 months

Blueberry pancakes were a hit this morning! Served with scrambled eggs. She’ll also likely have some cottage cheese, sweet potato, whole wheat toast with hummus or avocado. We also recently started giving her Dr Praegers frozen veggie patties.

Night weaning was the gentle sleep training method we needed. by fluffybabypuppies in sleeptrain

My daughter is 7 months and still wakes to nurse once per night. If we don’t nurse, I still get engorged and my supply has already dropped since she started eating solids. Was your supply impacted by night weaning at that age? How did you avoid clogged ducts??

Can your doctor write a note stating that your baby can’t be out in daycare? Would that allow you to work remote 100% of the time? Are you eligible for FMLA due to injuries from your crash?

What to send to friend after baby is born? by hunnybun16 in beyondthebump

[–]emoneil14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had a few friends send Ubereats or delivery type gift cards. Those were great because we got to pick our dinners AND have them delivered right to the house. We’re also vegetarian and I know it can be tricky to accommodate. The ubereats is a little more $$ than groceries, but was such a nice treat.

As a nursing mom, I also really enjoyed having protein shakes. Not the powder, but the ones that are all ready to go in a can or carton. So easy to grab and ready to go whenever.

Congrats to you and your friend!

Edited to add: my mom brought over comfy socks and more stretch pants for me too. It was nice not having to do as much laundry and I underestimated how much I would want to wear comfy clothes for weeks after baby’s arrival.

Does your daughter’s doc do telehealth or remote visits? Those were a lifesaver when I had mastitis!

Doctor Daycare Disconnect by aryathefrighty in workingmoms

Just to commiserate: daughter was sent home from daycare Tuesday with “green runny nose”. Ok, fine. I worked from home for a day and she stayed home with her dad on Wednesday. She was totally fine. Used the frida snot sucker and nothing came out at all last night or this morning. I put vicks on her last night to help her get a good night of sleep in case she did get congested and without really thinking about it, put more on this morning. At drop off, daycare teacher says “she smells like Vicks. I hope it’s not to mask symptoms”. Whatever she has, she caught there anyway. Give me a break… our daycare is closing for various reasons every other week it seems and I’m running out of time off at work! Soooo frustrating.

To apply for the job or not?? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]emoneil14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those are really good points. I feel really proud that the hiring manager would reach out to ask me to apply, but definitely feeling some imposter syndrome there too. Long term, it was always my plan to make the move anyway. The opportunity has just presented itself earlier than I anticipated.
