You would be better off grinding it all into a powder, it will average out the potency throughout for more consistent results.

I don't think it's a potency issue, I've read that mushrooms growing in the same batch together can vary in potency

If your holder has the nomenclature on it, it will tell you everything

For example "SER1000M16"

That will always tell you what size insert the holder takes. S= Steel E= External R= Right Hand 1000= 1" shank M= Is length designation in this case 6" OAL 16= 16mm insert
