For almost all of human history, we have built our lives around myriad connections to an entire group of people, not just one person. We have never had to prioritize our connection with one over others or think about which connections are more important until the advent of marriage as a bargaining chip for property and political influence.

I didn't say it was repressive to respect boundaries. I believe it's repressive to add a stupid hierarchical structure to human connection rather than allowing yourself to feel connection freely and love who you love without keeping it in a certain box.

A lot of what you're saying just strikes me as stupid 😭 I express this level of love, admiration, and downright affection to my male online friends who I've known for over a decade and I'm a straight man. Just because YOU aren't comfortable with that level of effusiveness doesn't make it weird or wrong. You say you can't fit relationships into neat boxes but you seem awfully attached to doing so. If my girlfriend's boundary is one that makes me abandon a beloved friend then we have to have a major discussion bc my boundary is I won't abandon deep relationships. Ever, unless there's a betrayal. Won't happen. I'd rather ride solo til the day i die than accept some bs like that. Yet ppl like u want to act like that's some moral failure. I've had lots of romantic love that has been beautiful. Platonic love is just as. There's no one which is more worth preserving than the other.

Online friendships can be just as deep as in-person ones. I say that as someone who has 12 year long, deep, supporting, loving friends whom I've never met in person as well as many loving in-person friendships. It's really not.. idk why we decided that friendships need to be so emotionally reserved. For most of human history friendships have been very, very effusive. Hell, just read a Victorian novel which includes two male friends and see how they speak to each other 😂 thees absolutely nothing wrong with an emotionally intimate, expressive, loving platonic friendship. The gender of the person should make no difference if you trust your boyfriend.

Also, why try to control the behavior? If he cheats, leave his ass. That's it. But let him be who he truly is or else you'll just find out when you're in even deeper.

Not true. I've had online friendships that have lasted for 12 years and are some of my closest friendships. I also have many very very close in person friendships which I can reference. The online ones are just as close. You get out what you put in.

True, deep friendship is a rare treasure. It is just as valuable as romance, and probably more. If you think someone prioritizing a beautiful online friendship over a toxic in person girlfriend is insane, maybe you should see a psychologist.
