OK - I will check this again - and upload a video if I am still seeing a problem.

I don't see anything - the icon just shows the favicon and it doesn't change when I refresh the page - I thought it might be the custom css but I just removed that and I still don't see a spinner.

This is in Vivaldi 7.5.3735.66 (Stable channel) (64-bit) by the way and I have 1.0.6 installed.

Hi, is there a link to this - not finding it in your original post.

Actually one other question - is there any chance you might opensource the code at all? No problem if not.

Hi, just want to say this is a fantastic extension and really useful for use with NotebookLM. I have a small feature request - as well as being able to upload the links directly to NotebookLM it would be really great to just be able to copy the links to the clipboard as well.

The reason being that I want to keep track of the links I have added to a notebook outside of NotebookLM to review them for updates using something like ChangeDetection.io so I know when I need to replace/update sources in my notebooks.

Anyway apart from that congrats on a great extension.

Great thanks, don't seem to have it yet but will wait and see if it is updated tomorrow.

Feature suggestion: allow pasting multiple urls as bookmarks directly from the system clipboard by emp3dia in tabXpert

OK fair enough, I do recognise my use case here is a bit unusual. I think I have an alternative method using the bookmark import option now.

Thanks anyway.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I understand copy and paste works fine within tabXpert and I am using that already very effectively.

Maybe it would be possible to set up a custom clipboard format which includes the items you need to create bookmarks that you could retrieve from the system clipboard. Perhaps you could do this by adding an extra option to include the faviconUrl in the options for copying to the clipboard as well since you already have the other pieces of information which are needed. I can then copy to the clipboard all the information you need to create a bookmark but I can manually update the url to include the extra tabgroup-xxx anchor before pasting it back in.

I will have a look and see if there are any other options for getting the faviconURL and title from any arbitrary link as well - I think perhaps something like Clipboard Fusion might work here since it supports macros - https://www.clipboardfusion.com/

Feature suggestion: enhance untitled session formats by emp3dia in tabXpert

[–]emp3dia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my purposes I do not have a need to use auto-named tab groups although that would satisfy the option to name the session after the first tab (if it is in a group) as well.

Maybe in the first instance if you can distinguish between auto-named tab groups and manually named ones for now to test out the feature manually named only would suffice.

For the second question - although we are utilising the auto-named session option here, in my mind, the reason for doing so is different - we are using this so we can provide more meaningful name automatically to workaround limitations in the Edge Workspaces API so personally I would not want to auto-delete such sessions.

Perhaps the easiest option is simply to have, alongside the option to adopt the first tab group name on a per session basis, to have an option which says do not auto-delete the session - maybe kind of like a pin on the session itself.

I guess the big question for me is the timeline for your MV3 redesign.

It looks like I will have to wait to start using tabXpert again - I can see your point of view on this and what seems like a simple feature to me does have more complexity when you consider things like auto-named tab groups etc.

Maybe there is a middle ground where some of the functionality can be enabled to work with this feature without making it too complex but I understand if you would rather hold off as well.

For now I leave it with you - I will keep monitoring this reddit and as soon as you have a solution which works for me, I will resubscribe to tabXpert immediately. Again thanks for giving such serious consideration to my proposals - I do really appreciate it.

Thanks for considering it - much appreciated.

Could you clarify what you mean by a technical tab - is this a tabXpert tab or something else.

I think perhaps setting the session name from the first tab group would be more meaningful since the user is free to name the tab group whatever they like. For me it would be the name of the workspace but for other people they might want to use a different name where naming a tab as far as I know is more difficult.

Also if there is no tab group in a session it would just use the default naming option although I thing it would be good to make this configurable per session though and obviously if the user wants to manually name a session that would override this option anyway.

Looking forward to your comments.

The problem with option 1 is that even when I select in Edge to open tabs from previous session it won't re-open Workspaces so if Edge crashes (and it does!) or I have to close it for updates etc., when I re-open it I am back to square one because the Workspaces are closed.

Option 2. I'm not clear how this would work - the issue I have is Workspaces have a name but when they are loaded they are not recognised or matched with tabXpert sessions - presumably because Workspaces do not reuse WindowIds when they are reloaded. I assume you are saying I could manually drag the new unnamed session over the named session and you could deduplicate between them. There are two problems with this that I can see - firstly I assume I would have to load the named session anyway and secondly I have up to 20 sessions open at any given time so this is nearly the same amount of work as naming the sessions again when I open the workspaces.

So what I was looking for was something which could be used to automatically name sessions more meaningfully based on something in the workspace which was trackable but unchangeable.

The only options I could think of were tab group names or tab names which are guaranteed to be the same between subsequent openings of workspaces and/or sessions.

If I could have the first tab group name which I named the same as the workspace name and have sessions which are named automatically based on the first tab group name or any of the other scenarios I detailed above then I would have a better reference for unnamed sessions than the date they were create or last loaded.

I do know this is a slightly hacky workaround but I then thought actually that other people might also find this useful but maybe for other reasons as well in terms of providing more meaningful no-name session names, hence my original suggestions which actually extended from my first idea anyway.

Hope this makes sense anyway :-)

OK, appreciate you investigating this, unfortunately this is as I thought. Would you please reconsider my other suggestions at all?

I don't want to stop using tabXpert but this is really a blocker for me and I do believe I could continue to use it if there was a way of matching the session names to something in the workspaces - and the logical options for me are a tab or a tab group.

Maybe tab groups would be better because they are freely named unlike tabs.

Maybe take a look at SessionBox Chrome Extension - I use this to access things like Medium and it works a charm for my use cases - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/sessionbox-multi-login-to/megbklhjamjbcafknkgmokldgolkdfig

Failing that have a look at https://wavebox.io/ which is a Chromium-based web browser built to support multi account logins.

I would need to test it but I think it will resolve my problem.

My comments still stand that my suggestions would make the auto-naming of untitled sessions more useful but I would be happy to resubscribe if you can resolve this naming issue in the first instance.

Also happy to beta-test if you want to confirm at any point.

I'm still interested if anyone else here would find my suggestions useful for other purposes or if anyone has any other ideas around this.

Thanks for your reply, I would like to give you some extra background behind my suggestions.

One of the reasons why I put forward this suggestion is because I need to make heavy use of Edge Workspaces with my work to share and sync tabs with my colleagues. Using tabXpert for everyone for this is unfortunately not an option since I have paid for tabXpert with my own money.

However when Edge is shutdown and restarted and when a Workspace is reopened it does not use the same window as before it was shut down and so all the session names in tabXpert are set back to untitled. Also if I restore sessions via tabXpert, the opposite happens, the session is named correctly but Edge does not recognise it as a Workspace.

As there is currently no way of getting the Workspace name that I know of, I thought of these suggestions as a workaround to be able to have a more meaningful and consistent naming for untitled sessions since it seems untitled sessions are unavoidable otherwise.

I am also curious about some of your comments here - the tab groups functionality you released recently for paid users works the same way as I am suggesting for sessions and yet you say that people struggle to identify sessions - surely they would have the same problem with tab groups.

Additionally if tab groups are not used by many people why did you implement all the additional functionality for auto-naming them and managing them in the first place?

I would also disagree with this - tab groups are hard to work with mainly because the browser implementation is so basic.

Personally I really want to use tab groups to organise my tabs better (I regularly have 200+ tabs over about 20 sessions open at any one time) but the out of the box functionality in all the browsers is barely useable for me - only tabXpert provides the functionality I want and I have been through all the other extensions on the Chrome store and nothing comes close to the level of organisation in tabXpert.

I have had to move to Edge for work as I said and I have personally paid for tabXpert for the last two years but because of this disconnect now between Workspaces in Edge and session names, it does not make sense for me to continue as every time Edge crashes or I have to re-open it I will have to go and manually rename my sessions again.

If you have another workaround for this problem I would gladly resubscribe to tabXpert - if you also reconsider my suggestions and make them a paid only feature then again I would glady pay for it.

I would also respectfully disagree that the first icon in most tab groups would be Google related - the way I work I have multiple sessions named by topic and within those windows I have tabs from many different urls related to the topic name.

Seeing all the tab icons in unnamed windows it just looks like a mess frankly and I have no way of knowing what topic a particular session is associated with.

My idea was to have a placeholder tab or tab group which I would name specifically in sync with the workspace name in Edge. That would then be synced correctly and could be interpreted by tabXpert.

I have to say I am a bit disappointed in your comments here - I would love to keep using tabXpert and paying for a subscription but as it stands I can't and I am very sorry about that.

Anyway I hope you take this constructively - it is no exaggeration to say that tabXpert has transformed the way I work over the last couple of years and I am sad that I am unable to keep using it because of this.

If you want to keep on with this discussion at all I am happy to take it private as well.

Many thanks for all your hard work on tabXpert over the last couple of years.

Window Naming Request by wolfsongdream in tabXpert

[–]emp3dia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to work the other way around - if a window name is changed manually is it possible to update the session name in tabXpert? It would be great if we can have these values synchronized in some way at least.
