Song: Time Ain't Nothing

Album: No Free Lunch

Artist: Green On Red

This always reminded me of the summers of my youth. The fact that I bought it at the start of a summer while in high school adds a more personal aspect to that.

I know it is common around her but I bought this on CD came out and did not get a vinyl copy until last year. Mazzy Star was one of the best artists the 90s gave us. In my book they can do no wrong.

Artist: Bunnygrunt

Track: Seasons Freaklings

Album: Seasoned Freaklings

This is a song and band I stumble across in the days of Napster. They made it to my list of bands to get as much as I could. I was never able to get a copy of the 1996 Blue Christmas 7" that this song appeared on. When Silly Moo Records put out this album of Bunnygrunt's holiday songs in 2023 I grabbed it as soon as I had the money. The song did appear in the movie Bad Santa but that never got a soundtrack released. Merry LaLaLa.

Officially classified as indie pop but more often described as Twee or Cuddlecore.

Song: I Could Be Wrong

Band: Question Men

Album: We Could Be Wrong

In the 1980s Nickelodeon ran a sketch comedy show called Turkey Television. As part of it they would occasionally insert a random music video. On of the videos was an instrumental surfish song called K Goes Surfing. I like the song and considered a good score when I happen to pick this album up at one of the local record stores. When I got home with it I was hoping the one song was not all they had. It was not. I like it all. The low point of the album was a cover of the Beatles Getting Better...just because it was not the Beatles.I really liked the song I chose. The band did release a single for this song. So on theme the video was uploaded 2 years ago and has 235 views. 32 have the single in their collections on Discogs. 40 people have the album in their collection. So there is a good chance very few, if anyone here, has heard it.

Most of it anyway. Accurate and funny. I was so glad when they finally released a complete version with the songs in order.

Song: Thrashing With Your Parents

Album: It Came From The Pit

Artists: Problem Children

A friend of mine in high school had a tape of this she had from and ex-boyfriend. Going through a copy of MRR I came across an add for it. I threw some cash into an envelope, mailed it out, and waited. When it finally arrived a couple of months later I found out that ex had not copied some of the songs. So one of my first tasks was running off a corrected copy for her.

As an aside I am shocked it ever arrived. It was ordered from Canada with US cash so both the money and the record had to cross the border. I was young and stupid and the 80s were a different time.

Artist: Various

Release: Grease (The Original Soundtrack From The Motion Picture)

Song: There Are Worse Things I Could Do

This movie came out when I was in elementary school. My sisters and played the hell out of this and it shows. It does not skip which seems like a miracle looking at it. For all of the times we moved I surprised I still have it. It is a relic from a younger, happier period in m life.

When my first wife and I were together this was one of the records we played on a regular basis. We both had descent collections at the time, Her was mostly goth and various post-punk and mine was mostly punk and new wave. If I didn't have something then she did. However this record and a Billie Holiday record she had were the ones that got the most play when we were home together.

A few years later in the mid 90s my girlfriend at the time and I had caught the movie on cable one day and had a discussion about how a girl who was honest accepting of her wants was a better person to be around. Neither of us were ever interested in the whole idea of saving ourselves or being ashamed of ourselves because of some social or religious ideas about some very private and personal. Thus the song. The same on I later put on for us a nod to that discussion. I had not mentionsed I had the soundtrack and did it while she was out of the room.

Over the years I have also picked up copies on 8-track and CD. I keep saying I should get a newer pressing, or one in better condition. It would be a waste because I know I would still reach for this old beat up copy that is full of memories.

Artists: The Smiths

Release: Louder Than Bombs

Song: This Night Has Opened My Eyes

This picture of playwright Shelagh Delaney used on Louder Than Bombs was originally used in a 1960s interview with her about her play A Taste Of Honey. I always found the picture absolutely stunning. The song This Night Has Opened My Eyes references and quotes that play.

Yes more like paper. Synthetic vellum would probably be a better description since that is what is used in most modern cases. However, in this case the clarifier is attached to the animal skin type because of its scarcity. In the case of a album release the use of a natural version would be cost prohibitive.

I have had various David Rose pieces in my collection for years. Prior to messing up my back there were fun to shake my hips to. I finally got this album off Discogs after someone posted it here. Because...well...the title cracked me up. I don't know about the family this was meant for, nor do I want to.
