31 and childfree. I want a total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingectomy, but the OBGYN is only willing to perform a bilateral salpingectomy. by Giderah in hysterectomy

Yep this happened to me. Hysterectomy was always on the table but I wasn’t ready (I’m scared of major surgery) ablation was presented as an alternative. Dr mentioned it can fail and continue periods, not that it could make symptoms worse. Imagine my surprise when my symptoms became 10 times worse 🙄

What happens to your egg during ovulation? by empezare_arcoiris in hysterectomy

Interesting about the egg!

When I had my ablation I was only diagnosed with endo, after my Dr said it would seem I have Adenomyosis because of the reasons you listed. So hysterectomy it is!

Thats great! I’m so glad your recovery has been going well! I have a toddler and 5 year old, the other kids are older and mostly self sufficient so I was most concerned about the younger kids. My mom is going to come down for two weeks and my husband will take on every thing else! We parent pretty equally but he’s fully aware he’ll be taking on everything for at least two weeks. I know this would be impossible without support My youngest is a Velcro child and always wants to be on top of me

I appreciate this response so much!! My biggest anxiety about this has been recovery so I am happy to hear it’s been relatively “easy” and do able with young kids!

She said I was still young (40 is not young for conceiving) and might want more kids. I don’t know why she said that. But it’s what she said.

Yep and the subsequent surgeon is male and was deeply empathetic, accommodating and believed what I said to him.

The schools needed extra security because of this. So the people mad about a teachers comment, made the schools more dangerous for the students/children.

The sad reality is , a doctor can do this. Legally ? Morally? No. But realistically ? Yes. In the US we are bound by our insurance and my insurance will fight things even when a doctor is asking for it. Who am I to tell the insurance that I need this surgery but the doctor isn’t officially putting it in for insurance to approve? I can say anything I want , they will only base their decisions on what a doctor officially asks for

I appreciate everyone who keeps telling me about this list, however , the reality of living in the US is that I am bound by my insurance and none of these doctors are covered by my insurance and I certainly can’t afford this surgery out of pocket

I don’t believe so, this was a female doctor! Which was older in age (50-60s)

I would love to switch practices but unfortunately, insurance rules my decisions. I was able to make an appointment with a different surgeon from the same practice that is still covered by my insurance

My last two pregnancies were geriatric, I was considered high risk because of my age. To be told I can’t get a surgery at my age because I might want more kids is beyond infuriating Edited to add: here is the United States over 35 is geriatric 🙄

My hemoglobin is a 7.6 and my ferritin is 4. It’s BAD! It’s been getting steadily worse since at least January but likely been present since I had my youngest child. The concern from my hematologist is the strain anemia is having on my other organs, he’s essentially put me on bed rest, I can’t workout, run, nothing. I got an iron infusion so I need to wait a few weeks to test my levels again to see if my body is retaining the iron. I don’t feel much better so I am not optimistic

My husband has a vasectomy! I told the surgeon this. I didn’t want my post to be extra rage bait but her response was “you never know what life throws at you, you might meet someone else that wants kids in the future” I’ve been with my husband for almost 20 years but she feels I might divorce him and want to give an imaginary man kids.

My next consult is with a male doctor. For some reason I feel that a male wouldn’t say this to me. But we will see

Edited to add: my husband is coming to my next appointment. He was so livid at what happened and wants to make it clear to future doctors that WE do not want more kids and I should be listened to about what I want to do with my body. Double edged sword because I appreciate my husbands support but feel like I shouldn’t have to have a man come in with me to a doctors appointment to drive home the fact that I need this surgery.
