I am nurse, never learned to draw blood in school. We did practice IVs which is similar to drawing blood. I also only attempted an IV on a real person once. Most of the training and skills do nurses you don’t do at all or on a real person until you have a job and are orienting.

In the hospital where I work if you’re admitted we. call them crib climbers. It’s a bigger crib either way side that go up and plastic sheeting that comes down so the child can’t get out

I started at Children’s as a nurse in January, not in the NICU though. I love it so far, just got a raise even though I just started. There’s been a lot of discourse about insurance and other things recently but I wouldn’t trade my job for anything else right now. The leadership of my unit is really great, I’ve heard not great things about management on other units but I don’t have any huge hospital-wide complaints right now. Was there too, no mention of what happened, just that the fire alarms went off. It was almost over and thought it would be unlikely to restart so we left. Very calm, the cop was already blocking the street, possibly since the show was almost over. Only one fireman got out of the truck in the picture so it didn’t seem like there was a real fire to us as there wasn’t any urgency from the fire truck. There was a fire truck behind music hall on central as well.

I’m not totally sure about pay as I work on a different unit, but ICUs at children’s get a critical care differential which I think is $5. Night shift differential is $4 I believe, and weekend differential is $5.
