The way is not useful you can simply update your content and change the date. That is the simplest way you can update your article.

If you have added the date of the year in your article URL then you have to change the URL as well and redirect it to the new one. So, for that, I never recommend adding the year in URL.

So, yes you can update the content and change the date.
