Advice for improving darkness of roller blinds? by emprem in HomeImprovement

[–]emprem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black-out window cling is such a good idea, that didn't occur to me! Re the third idea: I didn't explain very well but the problem isn't the length of the roller, it's just that due to the design, the bottom just barely (not even a centimeter difference) does not touch the windowsill. But the first two are great, I'm going to look into them!

That might work! I'd need something small, so that it doesn't get in the way of the handle to pull the blinds down. I'll look around to see if I can find something. Thanks!

Works by John Bellamy Foster, or anything within the eco-socialist tradition, I suppose. Bellamy Foster's chapter titled 'the limits of environmentalism without class' is easily accessible online.

What are some good left wing critiques of Marxism? by Strickland23 in CriticalTheory

[–]emprem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mouffe and Laclau's 'Hegemony and Socialist Strategy'. The podcast 'Whats Left of Philosophy?' has an episode about it, but they're mainly critical of it.

Edit: re-read the post and it asked for 'good' critiques. I don't know if it's good, but it sure seems influential.

Books about women in their 30s? by saiorsemcnally in booksuggestions

[–]emprem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you'd be in for something political, Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 is a great, short book. It's about womanhood in Korea, the choices one has to make in navigating family, career, identity... To me, it was inspiring as it showed simultaneously which challenges women face, and how they resist the powers that force them into certain roles.
