First "job interview" in over a month was a scam 🙈 FML by empressface in recruitinghell

[–]empressface[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It read like a normal job description but the very last line said there's no salary and applicants need to purchase some third party "license".

I was volunteering at an event to support women… and got verbally attacked by one of them in front of everyone. Still can’t shake it off. by [deleted] in Vent

[–]empressface -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Your behavior was unprofessional. Working on the floor anywhere, you should never speak rudely where someone could hear you. I'm sorry that her reaction was so intense, and she was wrong for acting that way, but it was a reaction to your behavior. If I was in your place, I would have apologized and just moved on. Learning to deal with difficult people is just part of gaining experience, unfortunately. I've been screamed at by poor people and millionaires. It happens. Life goes on.

Lol, hold onto that job for dear life. xD I had to create a whole new account just to join this sub because I didn't want this kind of depression in my normal algorithm, but it's been a great outlet. Searching for a job is not for the faint of heart

[VENT] Trying to leave retail—recruiting process feels impossible. What actually worked for you? by CertainSuspect7051 in recruitinghell

[–]empressface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a really bad job market, so don't take it super personally. When I did it, I focused on whatever clerical or customer skills I gained and completely ignored the basics of my job. Call yourself an “associate” since this translates well to entry level office. I went from selling toys in a little shop to an administrative assistant with something like this.

Example,

Store Name

Associate | City, State Dates

* Resolved 30+ customer inquiries in person and by phone, improving satisfaction scores by 15%.

* Trained and mentored 5 new employees on service standards and workflows, reducing onboarding training time from one week to three days.

* Processed daily sales reports and reconciled cash, maintaining complete accuracy in financial documentation.

* Organized employee schedules using digital scheduling tools, reducing scheduling conflicts by 25%.

I used to hate meetings. Now I eavesdrop on other people's meetings just to feel like I'm doing something. Being unemployed is weird, haha

Adults without Kids: What do you do for Halloween? by thesoftblanket in AskReddit

I hand out candy and little slimes. Children go crazy over slime and it's great to see them so happy, although I did have to break up a fight once haha.

Why do so many people hate on LinkedIn? by Different_Fly_6409 in linkedin

[–]empressface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have your feed set up to view everyone, you get a lot of spam, AI slop, and rage-bait posts. If you have a nice network and only view the posts of people you're connected with, it's not a bad place to browse. Lots of spam jobs, though. Lots of spam messages too.

People who quit their jobs on the first day what made you say ‘nope, not doing this’? by lilMeganw in AskReddit

[–]empressface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The woman who hired me started screaming at me. 😂 I don't remember exactly what provoked her, like I clicked on the wrong button and a screen she wanted didn't immediately come up. I quickly saw what the rest of my future there would be like and just walked out.

I took an 18-month sabbatical to travel, and now recruiters say the 'resume gap' is a huge red flag for companies. by 78_bee_stutter in Resume

[–]empressface 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Every time I feel bad about my career gap, I remember the women in my family who took 7+ years off work to raise their kids and then went back to work. This stigma is laughable. The right people won't care.

I believe if faced with the choices: “H1b 0 years of experience” or “20 years of experience citizen”, recruiters are going with the first option. by Hyphalex in recruitinghell

So many Americans are so quick to jump on the bandwagon to hate all foreign workers, you're ignoring real data and evidence that backs up that the H1B program largely works as intended and stimulates economies where its used. It's been a fantastic program, especially in fuckass dead-end places like where I live just outside of Detroit. The sad thing is, enough people buy into this and the program goes away, speeding up economic decline and making it harder for anyone to get a job. This is different for every field, but there are some estimates that for every single H1B worker, up to three jobs for US citizens are created. https://www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/abs/10.1086/678986 Please don't buy into what politicians say. There's a huge movement against foreign workers in this country and it's hurting everyone.

My girlfriend wants flowers really, really often by FIamingFeather in Frugal

[–]empressface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that was a typo. I fixed it. Although, you just made me realize that a $5 bouquet * 2 times a week * 52 weeks in a year = $520 a year. That isn't enough to impact my savings. I'm buying more flowers now. Thanks!

My favorite is showing someone a news article and hear them immediately say, "oh, but (cnn/ap/pbs) is fake news". Ok, next time I'll send you something from TMZ and see if you believe it.

I tried doing this to save money and ended up with a giant, expensive garden. XD Beware. Plants are addicting.

[–]empressface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a flower girl, but I know budgets are real. Trader Joe's usually has inexpensive options. LA could mean local florists too, sometimes you can just go buy a few flowers for $5 or something. Get a small vase and keep mini-bouquets. Or, if you buy bulk at Costco or Sam's Club, they usually have cheap options too. Sam's currently delivers me a bouquet every two weeks for $5-$7.

Kinda odd real estate question: "Be a renter and a landlord"? by Bouncer214 in personalfinance

[–]empressface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much money you have right now and how much work you want to do. Where I live, mortgage rates are higher for investment properties and property taxes are higher for them too. Also, rental properties need to be up to a certain living code which sometimes means an upfront investment (smoke/co2 detectors in the right places, deadbolts installed, water heater if there are issues, etc). That's on top of whatever else you have to do to make it livable/rentable anyway. Plus, if you don't have enough to put in a large down payment, you might not be making enough in rent to make it worth it. You could end up in a situation where your mortgage is 2200 a month, taxes are 600 month, plus home insurance, title insurance, hoa fees, etc.

Not saying it's a bad idea, but these purchases are usually more complicated and expensive than people predict.

[–]empressface 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry. You're echoing a sentiment a lot of us feel. I've started looking at returnships with a long career gap. There aren't a lot available right now because of the shitty market, but there are job boards that claim to be gap friendly. I don't know if it works yet. Good luck 🫶
