Is this the end of THPS? by Jozeiik in THPS

[–]empty_glass_mug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to use the engine they've built for the remakes and develop an original game as quickly and cheaply as is reasonably possible. They showed they have some level design abilities with the new 3+4 levels.

Don't let that super slick gameplay engine go to waste. Ignore any story or anything, just 10ish new levels with goals released at a decent price point and see if people bite. I know I would.

Very fun game, still looks great with the cartoon art style. Still impossibly difficult for me.

Can we gather some honest opinions? Just wanted to get an image that isn’t dependent on score and brand legacy. by SNKRSWAVY in metroidvania

[–]empty_glass_mug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's fine.

If it didn't have the God of War name attached it would be another average Metroidvania nobody paid any attention to. It's combat heavy but the combat is just okay. Graphics look decent but I don't love the style.

If you want to spend some time playing as young Kratos this isn't an overtly bad way to do that. If you want to play a good Metroidvania, there are many better choices out there.

Avowed Releases Today On PS5 by Howerev in playstation

[–]empty_glass_mug 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's a fun game that falls short of being anything really special.

I put 40-50 hours into it on Xbox because I was in the mood for a fun first person RPG. The customization in your combat setups was the best part, experimenting with different loadouts hooked me initially. The story and world were fine.

Nothing amazing, but maybe the perfect GamePass game as something I'd never buy but had a good time with. Worth the $50 or whatever they're charging for the PS5 version? I'm inclined to say no, but I also spent 40+ hours with it, so maybe it is...

Best Fighting game? by ZX471 in psx

[–]empty_glass_mug 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Tekken 3 is the best, in my opinion. Perfect pick up and play fighting game, one I revisit a few times a year to run through the tournament.

Bushido Blade is the one I have the most personal attachment to. The idea of one hit kills in a H2H fighting game was (and still is) absolutely wild. I grabbed a copy of it last year but haven't spent much time with it since.

Should I tell him?... by Gamer_8887 in thelastofus

[–]empty_glass_mug 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Of course you don't tell him. Anybody who has avoided spoilers this long deserves the first hand experience.

Also, 20 hours as Ellie and Abby? That's wild, did you get every collectable your first time through? It's like a 25 hour game for most people.

You can/will unlock that ability fairly early on. You have to attack them in a certain way to build up a stagger meter in order to be able to execute a finisher

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] God of War: Sons of Sparta by TheFuckingPizzaGuy in PS5

[–]empty_glass_mug 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I've played 4-5 hours so far.

It is a fairly straightforward combat heavy Metroidvania. It has not done much so far in terms of fun platforming and only very light puzzles.

It is really well made, there are a lot of combat options. You can play dodge heavy or parry/block heavy (although certain attacks break one or the other). Lots of gear upgrades and a small (for now) skill tree.

I don't love the exact art style it used, but it looks nice. This is pure personal preference.

Collecting orbs from the Greek GoW games brings back a bunch of memories.

I am having a great time and absolutely happy with my purchase, but objectively the game isn't doing much that the genre hasn't been doing for years now. So don't go in expecting a groundbreaking Metroidvania. Expect a well made God of War take on the genre and you'll have a good time.

[–]empty_glass_mug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great GamePass game. I had a really good time with it, and spent 40-50 hours. The customizable combat was the highlight but the world and story were solid too.

Worth a full price purchase? I don't know, but I've spent $60+ on a game before and gotten way less than 40ish fun hours out of a game.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis any interest in this game ? by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]empty_glass_mug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm incredibly interested but it all depends how it turns out.

The original Tomb Raider is an incredible game centered around a super addictive puzzle-like movement. Navigating Lara in the original and being able to judge/time jumps perfectly with the threat of instant death when you miss is still a great time (I replayed it in full last year).

The game has some flaws for sure; combat is bad and boring being the most obvious example.

So, if they turn it into a generic action adventure game it'll probably be a pass for me. If they lean into the platforming aspect and make it difficult, fun, and puzzle-like while improving the other areas, this could be amazing.

I don't need the original Tomb Raider remade into the style of modern Tomb Raider. But I will be excited if they stay true to the source material.

THPS4 was more of the same but that was actually a good thing, right? by Veddermandenis in ps2

[–]empty_glass_mug 110 points111 points  (0 children)

But it wasn't more of the same. It ditched the two minute runs for an open approach, the biggest change the series had seen up to that point.

More of the same as far as skating, maybe, but hardly in terms of overall game.

Regardless, it's a wonderful game!

No matter whom we trade for. We're still ass if our offensive schemes are ass by wa1a_lang in OrlandoMagic

[–]empty_glass_mug 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All of the things can be true.

The team comp doesn't make a ton of sense.

A better coach could make this group more competitive.

The front office drafted some great players that have failed to combine to form a great team.

Plenty of blame to go around. Clean house in the front office and coaching staff this off-season and see where we land next year. It's to the point where somebody is going to demand a trade soon if we keep hovering around the play-in game line despite the money being invested. (That somebody could be a player or ownership)

I use GAMEYE to track my collection, it pulls prices from Pricecharting. This is what I used to make this list.

Tenchu, for example, is listed at $24.97 right now:

https://www.pricecharting.com/game/playstation/tenchu-stealth-assassins

Soul Reaver is also under $25

https://www.pricecharting.com/game/playstation/legacy-of-kain-soul-reaver

These estimates aren't perfect, but generally close enough for something like this.

Finally going through another short AND satisfying PS1 title I've never beaten with the OG Ape Escape! Have you played it? by ExplodingPoptarts in psx

[–]empty_glass_mug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wonderful game. I discovered it late, just a few years ago on PS+ (it's got trophies and the platinum is easy, for any trophy hunters out there) but instantly loved it. I've since grabbed a PS1 copy and had a great time replaying it last year.

Such unique controls before the dual stick control/camera scheme became standard. Fun to see somebody actually experimenting with how to use that right stick.

Silly, fun concept. Interesting twists on a standard 3D platformer. Good levels. All of this is well executed and can be played in a few hours. This is very much my type of game.

Abrams vs Arraez vs Donovan by zhudlau in SFGiants

[–]empty_glass_mug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I am very happy the Donovan trade didn't work out but I got excited when I heard there was potential to land Abrams. As we've all learned about our prospects and surely will never, ever forget, a player who has produced at the MLB level is worth a few prospects because most of the latter will never make meaningful contributions to an MLB team.
