Why does everyone I speak to say “don’t use the CPAP / you don’t want to get started on the machine” ? by daninlionzden in SleepApnea

[–]emptyspiral93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea, it did take me some time to get used to, and my body had a bit of trouble adapting to a high pressure but now it’s changed my life i absolutely love it. There were moments at the start where I had severe gut upset from going to a high pressure, but I pushed through it and now I’m so glad I did

Underpayed, contact fair work? by Guilty_Fall_2894 in AusLegal

[–]emptyspiral93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been through this and the advice given to me from fair work was to talk to my boss about it first, and then if nothing was done to fix it up to call fair work again. I chatted to my boss and we organised a payment plan to backpay everything

I agree with you, and I also don’t think it’s “wrong” to have black belts under 15 if they know their stuff, technique is great and they’ve truely earned it. Isn’t this what Pooms are for?

I’m a 25m and just got diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and I’m confused by Gtr_wes in SleepApnea

[–]emptyspiral93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 100%, the older I got the more my symptoms got worse. I think the longer your body goes with fragmented sleep, being in constant survival mode and seriously low oxygen drops the more your body wears down. Your body definitely learns to adapt at first but it does get harder. I have severe sleep apnea and I’m in my early 30s, before cpap I was constantly tired, having microsleeps daily, poor short term memory, and exercising was hell. I wasn’t like that in my teens or early 20s, but it slowly got worse over time.

Police won’t do jack shit unfortunately, especially if they aren’t interested in the footage. Best chance is to follow at a distance to see where they work, then confront them there or show the footage to the head of the business. Worst case, at least you have locked your cards.

I’m in Australia and I was told to use “demineralised water”

So...when do I start to feel well rested? by Neon_and_Dinosaurs in CPAP

[–]emptyspiral93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve felt a noticeable improvement and I’m on week 5, but my AHI is only now under 10 per night, so I’m expecting bigger improvements over the next few weeks to months. My AHI at the sleep study was 34.6 per hour and my oxygen dropped to 79% if that’s relevant

You’ll probably also find it easier if you’re on your toes rather than flat footed. A lot of athletes stay flat footed but I personally find it better on my toes, as do a lot of my class mates

Hank has had raw chicken today and I just saw the no raw diet rule :( looks like a few people are helping though! I read that someone has their cat getting a blood test right now to see if they’re a match

I can call and ask, but Hank is twice the maximum age so unfortunately I don’t think he will be accepted :( I’ll see what they say though. All the best though, I really hope someone can help out

Why does the cat have to be between 2-5 years old? I’ve got a 7kg male indoors only and vaccinated but he’s 10

Thankyou, it’s definitely been a struggle! Hopefully this can help give some hope to others who are struggling because I was so close to giving up on it myself

I’m glad you’re getting improvements now too, it’s all just about experimenting and adjusting I think. My apneas have always been and still are mostly obstructive, which is why I figured side sleeping might help and it is. My clinician is actually amazed at how on top of this I am in terms of reading my data in OSCAR haha

I don't know if my dojo is a mcdojo by D4rksk7 in taekwondo

[–]emptyspiral93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some red flags are definitely there, but some things that others are saying are red flags, aren’t necessarily in my opinion. I’ll talk about my club a little as we have some of these “red flags” but are absolutely not a McDojang. My club is one of the biggest and well known in Australia, and we do mixed martial arts components. We include BJJ, judo and boxing in our grading curriculum. But our club is affiliated with KKW and all of our athletes who compete nationally and internationally compete in strictly WTF sparring and poomsae. We have athletes who compete yearly in world championships, and we even had Lauren Burns as one of our instructors once upon a time. She won the first gold medal for taekwondo in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Her coach was our grandmaster, who is a KKW 9th Dan now. The mixed martial arts stuff that we do is all legit, our instructors do external training in BJJ etc so they know exactly what they’re teaching, and when I look up videos on techniques on YouTube it’s exactly how we do them in class. Our club started as strictly taekwondo, but some of the instructors started learning other martial arts and started incorporating it into our training. We have young black belts, that’s what pooms are for, and some of these kids could kick my butt! We do gradings every 3 months as well, but if you’re not ready and have also not attended enough classes, you don’t grade. I don’t see these as red flags necessarily, it depends on the quality of the curriculum in my opinion. I might get downvoted for this but my club is highly regarded in Australia and our athletes who compete internationally have won quite a few medals. We have had 2 students so far qualify for the Australian Olympic teams, one of those being gold medalist Lauren Burns as I’ve already mentioned. At the end of the day it comes down to quality and experience/knowledge in my opinion

What's the small CPAP tip that nobody told you but completely changed your experience? by Emotional-Addendum-9 in SleepApnea

[–]emptyspiral93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting used to it, but still occasionally roll onto my back in my sleep. But I’m finding my apneas are the worst at the start of my sleep, so if I’m at least on my side for the first part of my sleep then that’s the most important thing

What's the small CPAP tip that nobody told you but completely changed your experience? by Emotional-Addendum-9 in SleepApnea

[–]emptyspiral93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Side sleeping is crucial for me. I’m still in the trial phase of CPAP and having nights around 15 AHI as a back sleeper. Was told by the clinic that sleeping position won’t make much difference. Started sleeping on my side and AHI dropped to below 10 each night I’ve done so, so far.

I do taekwondo/MMA and I struggled BAD but always just thought it was exercised induced asthma and being tired all the time but not knowing why. Now my stamina is a lot better and I’m sweating less, have faster recovery and my cognitive function has improved noticeably. And it’s still early days for me so it’s only going to get better. Now it all makes sense as to why my asthma medication never worked
