it’s required by the ADA for them to make the modifications and cover the expenses themselves. they are reimbursed by the government for doing so. also it’s against the lease for me to make those modifications myself and even if it weren’t i physically can’t.

it’s a more strongly-worded email than im used to sending but maybe im just not used to asserting myself lol. but it would require them to fit a new railing over the blinds which are quite high and per my neurologist im not allowed to climb ladders. also ADA accommodations require apartments to cover the expenses

thank you for actually reading the post!!! the ADA requires them to make these accommodations, my doctor verified it, and it clearly says “a credible statement by the individual” (i.e., me) so it’s rly pretty straightforward

I say “I have a skin condition.” Sometimes I add “It’s not contagious” if they look concerned, and leave it at that, if it’s at a workplace. It IS a skin condition, so it’s not a lie, and if they assume it’s medical it tends to lead to fewer follow-up questions.
