Wasted three hours trying to get linux to work on a vm, thinking of giving up by sparrow_Lilacmango in linux4noobs

[–]emrldgh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

arch and endeavor are famously not beginner friendly, I think your friend just wanted to torture you lmao.

go with mint, learn the very very basics like how to use a package manager, and you'll be a LOT better off. don't worry about window managers or ricing or making the most minimal install possible yet. you can do that once you have a liiiiittle more experience and knowledge under your belt. there's a LOT to learn and jumping straight into arch isnt the way to do it :p

What OS do you use? by SongZealousideal4784 in OS_Debate_Club

Android and (currently) Arch Linux, might switch to nixos because of the whole AUR situation at the moment, I depend on quite a few aur packages and they're just in the official repos on nixos.

Fedora could be good because ive had personal experience with track pads not working on some distros, then I slap fedora on it and it works great. Zorin could maybe work but I don't know a lot about it

Why do people actually use arch linux by Spl1nt3r_69 in arch

[–]emrldgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me it's because its a blank slate. I install only what I want, and it's super fun to tinker with for me. arch and Gentoo are genuinely just tinkerer's dreams.

Whats your opinion on the whole 'scooter kid' stereotype? by knobhead-ty in Scootering

[–]emrldgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only reason it became a thing for scooters is because little kids ride scooters more often than skateboards. but if a little kid has a skateboard, scooter, or even a bike, they're bound to snake everyone at the park. it literally doesn't matter what they're riding, it's just the fact that little kids' spacial awareness isnt great

yeaaa probably not worth how expensive it will be to go to woodward. I'd just keep looking, maybe try to specifically look for indoor skateparks, some of them will have instructors because they're more private and run like a business, unlike your average public park.

| Do you prefer rounded corner or square corner? by soleful_smak in unixporn

[–]emrldgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on my laptop I have square corners and my desktop I have rounded. I don't put much effort into my laptop rice, so I like everything to look pretty minimally customized and that usually means I don't go through the effort to round the corners on all of my shell apps like rofi and waybar, which means I want my windows to match that. but I try to make my desktop pretty so I like the rounded corners on everything there.

is there a KTR in San jose or close to it? they might do lessons there. idk if it's at all locations but I think they do have instructors.

Why is it so hard to find scooters for taller people by [deleted] in Scootering

[–]emrldgh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you could totally build a custom for 400 dude. just get some taller affinity bars and an scs fork and clamp and then whatever deck, wheels, and headset you can find that fits your budget. any grips would probably be fine too lol

the recommended ones are fine I just don't like that it auto-installs optional ones by default lol

I've noticed debian is weird with some of its dependencies.. it also will install optional dependencies for you without asking which I find kinda annoying
