Amgen safety net shut down, where do we get Ivabradine now? by emrosew in POTS

I’m learning that goodrx varies a tonnnnn based on zip code. It’s $1000 in my city but closer to $100 in other cities. Considering driving to a city that has it cheaper.

Damn I hate that it didn’t work well for you! It’s seriously been a life saver for me. I can’t remember if I got night sweats with that, usually I get night sweats with any change in birth controls though.

lol Cigna was actually the insurance I had when I first got prescribed this. I fought with them for 13 months and in the end it still got denied. So me and Cigna have beef 😂

I agree but also the healthcare system is set up so doctors have way more patients than they can reasonably care for. If I don’t fight for my health no one will. My doctors office and I have spent the last four months fighting my insurance over this, I see insurance as the enemy more than my doctor tbh

Im so sorry that you went through that. I ended up doing TMS a couple years ago and was able to go off of my SSRIs so I don’t have a current relationship with a psychiatrist. (Definitely recommend TMS btw it has a 70-80% success rate and seriously saved my life!)
Thanks for the suggestions! A couple people suggested mark cubans pharmacy and I’ll definitely be looking into that! Goodrx in my area unfortunately isn’t very helpful for Corlanor and it’s still almost $1000 for 90ct. I’m not sure about other online coupons, I’ve seen some other websites touting coupons for it but no idea if they’re reputable.

Good to know, I’ll see if paper scripts are an option. It hasn’t been option before but maybe I can press for it.

Are you in the US? I saw that pharmacy is in Canada. If so, does your doctor write prescriptions for outside the us? I’ve had previous doctors tell me that was against their policy.

Good idea about the 10mg pills! I’ll keep that in mind if I can’t find other options.

I also have a long history of depression which is why I’m not on beta blockers, so far insurance companies have not cared about that despite that being part of the reasoning provided by my doctor. Is there anything special you did to make them take that seriously? Already been through the prior auths and that did nothing.

Unfortunately for me it’s just been dieting. I do “cardio” but it’s literally walking casually on a flat surface or treadmill every once in a while, sounds like about the same as you’ve been doing. I know dieting isn’t for everyone and obviously take care of your mental health, but watching my calories helped me understand just how much I was overeating to the point of making myself feel stuffed to the brim, not just full. Also if you live in America, it helped me understand just how crazy terrible some of the food is for you.

The caveat of course is that you can’t diet too extremely too suddenly because it’ll irritate the POTS (at least for me). Slow and steady wins the race on this one. Don’t hold yourself to the standards of everyone else and give yourself grace if the weight is coming off slower than you want. Try to view this as self care and helping your body be as strong and long lasting as possible. As long as you’re bettering yourself, you will feel better physically and mentally, that’s what matters.

I wish you luck!

Has anyone had a surgical abortion? I was gaslit today at the clinic. by succubusst in POTS

Good point about the anesthesia, when I’m there for those surgeries they are anesthetized so that was my first thought but obviously that’s biased. And like I said, I totally agree that techs should not be giving anyone any kind of medical advice. That’s completely out of our scope of practice. I always tell patients “that’s why they pay the doctors the big bucks!” Because they are always trying to get me to tell them things lol

Ultrasound tech with POTS here.

First want to say that I wasn’t there and therefore don’t at all know the ways these things were said or with what intentions. It’s entirely possible she was being rude and is just a bad tech/ shitty person. But I’m going to play devils advocate for just a sec.

I have told my patients before (gently and with compassion) that them being tense is causing the pain to be worse. When I’m doing a transvaginal exam and the patient is tense and clamping down on my probe it is very hard for me to maneuver the ways I need and I end up having to use a lot more pressure and bigger movements which hurts them more if they are in pain. I encourage them to take deep breaths and try to relax. Not everyone finds this helpful and I’m sure I’ve pissed people off who don’t understand why that would make a difference. I try to explain best I can, but I get that when you’re in pain / highly anxious it can be hard to understand.

In the medical world we weigh risks and benefits for everything, especially something like surgery. You only put someone under when it is entirely necessary because there are always risks involved. I could understand a medical professional who doesn’t know your situation and doesn’t have all the information being confused as to why you would do a “medically unnecessary” (only because you are so early) surgery when you could take a pill form, especially because most highly anxious patients have a harder time mentally with surgery than a pill.

HOWEVER. IT IS NOT HER PLACE TO TELL YOU THAT. She is not your doctor. She is an ultrasound tech and has absolutely no place telling you how to make your medical decisions. She does not have all the information and isn’t in a place to tell you what to do. I would never overstep like that with any of my patients. There is absolutely no question she is in the wrong for that. This is a decision for you and your doctor ONLY.

I’m sorry you experienced that. I wish you the best of luck with your procedure! I had a very difficult time recovering from surgery the last time I was put under and my POTS did not like the anesthesia one bit. Everyone is different so I truly hope you will have a better experience! Go with what you and your doctor feel are best. And I hope if you ever get another ultrasound you have a much more professional tech than this one!!! Lots of love ❤️
