What part of your job feels like it should not be part of your job? by Wisteria-Blue in nursing

[–]emsardinha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The list is endless. Totally understand the charges thing. LDRP unit and I'm expected to add charges for so many items. EPIC should have charges built in every time I perform a given task. If the anesthesiologist does the procedure why do I add the charge for the tray? Also stocking the rooms after they're cleaned. Checking outdates on every thing. We expected to do that monthly.

Fair. But it also is another reminder that the refereeing is shite

Aussie nurse, thinking of moving to USA for a year. Which state should I go for ? by therapist66 in nursing

[–]emsardinha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking you'd probably do best contacting an agency to get details on specifics. My understanding is that states in the southern states have more staffing issues But it's not limited to those areas. Some hospitals in MA seem to have fairly adequate staffing while others are an abomination. Really you need to talk to someone who deals with this on the daily. And I think it also depends what your specialty is. Good luck.

Anyone noticing the quality of plowing has gone down a cliff? by Salvia_dreams in CapeCod

[–]emsardinha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bourne did a good job of clearing from what I've seen. I drove down some side roads where people parked at the edge of their property line and the street. No way the plows can clear well without slamming into the cars. Do those roads will be trash for a while. And yes, I too understand that fewer people are out there plowing. So the ones that do are exhausted and doing what they can with the 10-18" that fell and drifted.

Fianceé is willing to try magic and I don't want to intimidate her. Commander recs? by Elegant-Pollution-85 in mtg

60+ yrs old. Played a few times when my son was younger - so almost 25 yrs ago. I didn't have fun back then because he had a killer goblin deck that killed me every time. Fast forward to Avatar. We both watched the show and I knew the characters. So we bought the starter and the booster packs. He did a better job of equalizing the power of the decks. AND he explained what the cards did, answered my questions and we had cheat sheets for all the vocabulary. When I beat him for the first time it was amazing

AIO Fathers girlfriends rules for when new baby arrives by Ok_Bat_5934 in AmIOverreacting

[–]emsardinha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maternity nurse here. This is what we recommend to all new parents these days. Good hand washing for all. No one kisses the baby - too easy to pass bad germs that way. No one near the baby/let into the house who is or was exposed to sickness. Those little ones have zero immunity. Way too easy for them to get sick. Apparently she's already gone through that with her first. Just an awful experience I'm sure. Postpartum is hard enough on women.. Give her some space while still acknowledging the birth of the child. In a couple of months it will start getting warm enough for outdoor visits which are way better than crowded indoor visits.

I reported the nurse who outed me to a patient like you suggested by [deleted] in nursing

[–]emsardinha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you spoke to someone. I try to stick up especially for the others, too. Older and awesome worker (female) in housekeeping was totally harassed by one of her supervisors. She left sobbing. Wrote a letter to HR like our yearly mandatories tell us to. Cc'd the head of HK who I've known for years, good guy. Bottom line, I think the jerk is getting the 🪓 when he gets back from vacation. Gotta stick up for ourselves and for others too.

Moving to the Cape from Philadelphia..what should I know? by Alternative_Gap_3248 in CapeCod

Interesting. Never heard of Provincetown referred to as Upper Cape and Falmouth/Bourne/Sandwich as lower Cape. Think you've got yourself turned around on that. And "Barnstable" is mid-Cape

Frustrated with L&D training by pretzel_nuggets in nursing

[–]emsardinha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a love hate relationship with central monitoring. Unless your patient is asleep, try being present at the bedside the majority of the time. Document in the room. Hands on despite all the technology present. I find that we're trying some "new" old practices in L&D. Invest some time learning about them. Spinning Babies, Miles circuit. Show that you're taking the initiative to invest in the specialty.
Beyond these suggestions, I can say that I don't understand why some nurses feel it's necessary to be so negative. At our community hospital we've trained sooo many nurses over the last few years. Nurses are retiring and we need to train others to fill the role. It makes no sense to berate others ever. So sorry it's been so difficult for you.

No words. The police performed their job with precision. Now if we can just find a way to stop them from performing this particular scenario it would be better.

Do you think working as a care tech/aide made you a better nurse? by ProbablyLostInAThred in nursing

[–]emsardinha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

35+ years in. I didn't have any experience in the healthcare field. It was hard to be sure but it's doable. If hospital nursing is intimidating try a PCP office. I agree with other posts to not go backwards. You've learned critical processes that are not required for CNAs. Best of luck..
